35 mm polyp removed

My son had a 35mm polyp removed from his sigmoid colon today during his colonoscopy. The gi took it out in one piece. If he got it out that should be it right? I know we have to wait on the path report but I’m concerned with the size but if it’s pre cancer contained in the polyp he should be good? Least it was only one. GI Dr on discharge notes said follow up in one year. Praying path report is negative and good. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Hi, Yes it is good news that the polyp has been found and removed and hopefully that will be that. They are used to seeing and removing polyps and I think if there was any concern that it was cancerous they would not have removed it by colonoscopy. I had a right hemicolectomy operation for a 5cm cancer 3 years ago and also polyps removed since then at colonoscopy. I am fine and consider myself very lucky that this was found as I had no real symptoms. Try not to worry.

Okay so got the word from nurse it was high dysplasia so if they didn’t take it out it would have been cancer. They will do another colonoscopy in 3 months to make sure it’s clear and a year after that. I’m so relieved 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻. Was yours High dysplasia? Hope you are doing well

Hi Mike, That's really good news. Caught in time. Not sure what high dysplasia means I assume it is pre cancerous. Mine was cancerous it was 5cms in length, curled round and looked like my little finger. Too big to be removed at colonoscopy but there was also another smaller one too. I had the right side of my bowel removed at operation, followed by 3 rounds of chemotherapy to "mop up" any stray cancer cells but I made a good recovery and am fine. No need for a stoma bag. That was three and a half years ago and I am happily living life. Thank goodness for our NHS.

may I ask what your symptoms were prior to the 5cm cancer being found? how long did the symptoms go on for?

Hi, Surprisingly I didnt have any symptoms. I went to my GP for a completely unrelated issue . He did blood tests and it was found I was severely anaemic although without symptoms, apart from tingling in my toes. He insisted on me having a colonoscopy and endoscopy to find out why. That was when the tumour was found. So no pain, bleeding or changes in bowel habit that are usually expected, just tingling in my toes. Hope this is useful. Mags

The anemia was an indication you was loosing blood and it would have been the tumour it was coming from you probably had been loosing blood for a very long time . I'm happy your on the mend now though.
