Passing blood for almost 3 years

Since 2017 I’ve been passing blood in my stool. Sometimes when I wipe it looks like I cut myself, like it’s nothing but blood. Then others it might be just small chunks of blood . Sometimes there will be blood on or mixed in with stool, sometimes the water will turn reddish in the toilet, and sometimes u can see like drops of blood on top of the water. My grandfather died from colon cancer and my aunt, mom’s sister, has been battling 2 different types of cancer for sometime. To say the least it runs in my family. I get worried but don’t have health insurance so I haven’t been to a doctor about it.

But as what you mentioned, it’s been 3 years, how have you been this 3 years, do you feel anything wrong with your body?

Dear Mcooney00 ,Thank you for posting in our community. I'm sorry to hear about your rectal bleeding.

There are many reasons for blood in the stool, some are very treatable with medication, diet change, and minor procedures, and of course, there are more serious reasons for blood in the stool as well. For that reason, we always advise patients to seek medical care when they have blood in the stool.
