Can internal hemmroids do this?
What could cause these blood clots?
Should I be worried?

Hi there, no I haven't, but if I had I would be making the earliest appointment possible with my doctor. Whatever is causing it is not normal and needs checking out. That way, your mind will be put at ease, or if - hopefully not - something bad is going on you can get treated.
Hi there, should be able to tell you in the next 2 weeks. Have been having the same as you for over a year now. Was put on an urgent referral to hsopital where they did a flexible sigmoidoscopy which was clear and was told it was haemorrhoids.
They've banded the haemorrhoids 3 times over the year and the bleeding hasn't stopped and yesterday I was told that I need an urgent colonoscopy in the next 2 weeks to see if they missed anything as I'm now anaemic.
GO TO A DOCTOR NOW AND GET REFFERED AND DEMAND A FULL COLONOSCOPY FROM DAY 1!!
Edit: just seen your other post about your referral. I'm glad they're going straight for the full colonoscopy for you.
If i'd done that it would have saved me a year of worrying as clots like that are not normal.
I also bleed heavily into the toilet and have had constant pain in my right side for over a year.
Do you have any other symptoms?
Yes I got a colonoscopy scheduled for the 29th of this month thankfully.
Well my bowels aren't exactly regular either. They have been yellow and kind of foamy looking and in really small pieces. Not to mention I cant hold it when I have to go. And I have gas pains all the time and nausea when I eat. Not sure if it's related.
Do you bleed into the toilet as well?
Oh yes I do! Sometimes a lot and then it would calm down but come right back. I do not have pain down in that area either. Other than cramps I dont feel pain. But I know blood clots are not normal!
Same here for over a year now. Let's hope it's nowt serious!
Praying are results come back negative and that we can get some answers.
I'm super nervous about my colonoscopy!. I more nervous about the liquid stuff I have to drink the day before.
I had one 5 years ago and it is unpleasant but not that bad. Just don't venture too far from a toilet. My partner asked me to give her a lift somewhere after I'd drunk it and how I made it back home without destroying my car I'll never know, but it was one major feat of mind over matter!!
I'll be more prepared this time!
Oh wow that must have been scary! I dont plan to go anywhere once I drink the stuff. But I do have a 1 1/2 year old to take care of and that might be difficult.
Got my appointment letter yesterday for the 31st. Let me know how it goes as good luck!
I'll let ya know. let me know how yours goes as well.
So I had my colonoscopy done. The prep for that was the worse part. Ny colon looks great other than some internal hemorrhoids and I do need to change up my diet. Hope your able to get some answers soon. Good luck
Can I ask if your blood loss made you iron deficient / anaemic?
Just curious as my symptoms seem very similar to yours but, despite taking high strength iron supplements (210 mg ferrous fumerate) for the last 5 months my iron has dropped even lower due to bleeding.
Nope. No anemic. But yes on the little bit of iron deficiency. An dont think appendix either. You are right on that. Hopefully you get some answers today!
Could pain on the right side be appendix?
My GP said the pain could be collitis due to where it is. It's been gradually getting worse over a year so don't think it's appendicitis as that's more of a rapid onset. It's definitely in that region though and extremely sore and tender when palpated.
Guess I'll find out tomorrow...
Hi, ILoveLife28
Has the situation now been resolved?
red blood normally comes from haemorrhoids or the rectum, as only fresh blood is red, and blood from further up will have turned brown or black.
I have the same thing as you! 🙁
I have the same been ongoing over a week plus tummy problems.
Reading all of these comments, hoping to keep getting updatesfrom everyone: I need all the info I can get!!!
I'm 33, I have been suffering from MASSIVE blood loss from hemorrhoids and a (healed) fissure, since my 2nd trimester... in July of 2017.
My heamoglobin dropped down from 134 in may 2017 to 60 July 27th, 2017.
No joke. And I was pregnant. . . Baby was totally ok!
Very, very long story condensed: i have had so many iron infusions, 4 or 5 blood transfusions and still yet to have over 124 heamoglobin reading. Ferratin also low of course. Irin infusions also make me sick for about 24 hrs.
I still have intense bleeding, too the point it sounds like I'm peeing... and in not. Lots of clots too. I can also tell the difference from a hemorrhoid to whatever else is causing the bleeding.
I have had every scope you can imagine including a colonoscopy. The most information I can get is that I have hemorrhoids, but they wouldn't cause this much bleeding.
There is evidence that I had a fissure, but that wouldn't cause this much bleeding either.
I can't seem took get anywhere with this.
I saw another Gen. Surgeon on Monday and I was told to have metamucil everyday, indefinitely, and he'd see me in a month.
I wanted to cry and yell and lose my mind.
Im just not getting anywhere on figuring this out
I have had the scenario. This has been going on two years of up and down labs, iron infusions, blood transfusions, and every possible scope. I just saw the gastro and she suggested having a nuclear test that is able to identify where in the body you are bleeding. Honestly I don’t think my insurance will cover the test. It’s so frustrating. I literally feel like I wear a lead blanket all the time from the exhaustion I was diagnosed with Mixed Connective Tissue, which is an autoimmune disease and I haven’t been the same since.
It's frustrating as hell. My ferritin is constantly low and I'm anemic despite taking iron supplements daily.
My consultant said he is going to do a HALO op (after 4 failed bandings) on my internal haemarrhoids after our next appt on the 14th Dec. Hopefully this will end 2 years of heavy blood loss.
I am constantly tired and feel like lead and it's affecting my work.
jh318 Have been reading a lot and rectal varices can cause these symptoms too so am going to ask my consultant in December.
Hey, ive had this recently and I can almosy guarantee u, its very normal for ur internal hemmroids at sm point to get infected and cause mucus, iching and dried bright bloods .. it can lead to irregular stools, gas, discomfort and it all happens from lack of fibers and lack of exercise.. the only way to get through it is exercise, eat healthy, eat high fibers, eat fiber supplements, avoid eating doughs, sugars and meat, take stool softeners like senna and sitting in a warm bath tub 1-2 times a day.. try that for a month and i think it will go away.. Ive been doin it 2 weeks.. i can say i see blood less regularly now.. and if i do its not as much as b4..
Also avoid straining, dont sit on toilet too long, wash ur ass after u take a dump and do kegel exercises..
That's brilliant advice and believe me I've followed that advice initially from my doctor, but we're all taking about heavy blood loss which I can promise you is not normal for haemorrhoids, to the point where myself and the others users are now anemic.
It's also impossible to not sit on a toilet for a long time as you have to wait for the bleeding to stop which for me can take over half an hour.
Did you ever get answers ? I hope you’re doing better
In great thanks. For me it was internal hemorrhoids. Although it took a while for the docs to believe I was losing that much blood from them as it's extremely rare.
I ended up being rushed to hospital after collapsing in the shower and was in hospital for a week, had 5 units of blood transfused and had to have an emergency hemorrhoidectomy.
That was in Apr and I'm absolutely fine again!!!
Hi, I’m 24 years old turning 25 in a few days. I’m having some of the same things happening. I’m going to check myself in the er Friday after work. I’m glad I came across this post it gave me some Comfort going though this process. I hope all is well with everyone.
My symptoms have been lasting since 2005 I know a long time but no one has answers. I am also in the same boat as everyone else here, after my third colonoscopy, maybe now they will do something other than saying what it's not. This last colonoscopy came back normal, one polyp removed plus other spots. All came back normal. And it's back once again, bleeding, clots, n cramps. It makes me wonder, much more now than before. I asked for a CT scan but was pushed to get another colonoscopy, maybe this time the doc will listen. doubt it.
Hi Apers, so everytime you went for colonoscopy, your results are fine but the bleeding will comes back, do your have any mucus as well?
Since I am reading back through this board, it's still happening. I did go in for my third colonoscopy and even the doc was like, why are you back again. So, nothing showed up as abnormal. Still heavy clots and lots of red blood. Heavy cramping on the left side I would bet it's the large intestine and up around on the horizontal area of the large intestine as well. It also stops me from being normal, yet not constipated, so it seems because do not have to strain when going once I can. Every time I get home (i work remote) getting an appointment is first on tap once I get home. They better not ask for another colonoscopy, that new prep sucks, rather do the old way.
no mucus, not that I know of anyway.
Hey found the board again..... Well 4 months later still having issues, actually, they have gotten worse, more cramping just feeling really crappy now. I tried to see a doctor where I currently am, no luck, going to go back to the original one and see if he will just order a CT scan of the midsection, I think he can do that? If not, I don't know what else to do, I don't get home till Dec... more to come.
Hi IloveLove28
I have just joined this group and seen your post, I'm getting these blood clots, how are you now and have you found out what was causing the clots
I’ve had on and off rectal bleeding for about 2 years, I thought it was a fissure and maybe I got cut because of a fish bone I digested or something like it. But recently I’ve been having excessive bleeding in my stool and I’m seeing lumps of blood clots like what you have. I want to go to the emergency room right away but due to this corona virus I can’t. I’m only 17, I’m scared about what it might be but seeing this forum has given me hope I’ll be okay. I saw blood clots the last 3 times I used the bathroom, and I Almost am scared to use it now bc I have to sit there for 30 min soaking up the blood on my ass. I want to go to the hospital but I don’t want to be around people who have the corona virus and risk getting it. I really have no idea how to contact a doctor without being there with them and I don’t know how long this corona virus will last so I can’t go in. If you have any questions or answers for my current predicament please respond.
I am having the same coagulation as you, did you find out what is going on?
it was hemorroids for her.
For everyone - if the stool is slightly red and only occasionally , it is hemmoroids.
Do not drink alchocol often and DO NOT eat spicy food. Eat a lot of diversified food and cooked meals. Eat fruits and vegetables that are rich with iron.
And most importantly, use balm for Internal use or goose fat every few days untill the issue stops and hemmoroids wither away. They never dissapear but you can quite effectively make them small enough to not bother you again.
I have this issue maybe every 6 or so months dependant of what i eat and drink but i treat it away in days.
Stay well and do not worry.
I just started bleeding when i go poop. It's like a gush of blood every time . I do drink so I think that may be it too. I haven't been pooping normal for the last couple of weeks with diarrhea and not normal poop. Anybody have know what that could be?
Please what was your hospital outcome. I have been seeing this same bleeding with clots just like that for a month now. Need help with answers to ease me from going crazy with all thos scary thoughts. My appointment is not until 08/31/2020.
I suffer from that. I first started may of last year (2019) I was in Vegas when I first started bleeding I went crazy I googled it and I diagnosed myself with colon cancer. Days went by and it happened again but this time it was like a stabbing pain when i tried passing my stool didn’t want to think about so I let months pass. In July I went to the ER cause I couldn’t take it anymore they drew blood from confirmed that all my blood cells were good and no anemia, before I left the hospital the doctor put her finger up my ass and confirmed they were internal hemorrhoids. Thank god. I don’t bleed every I could go months without bleeding. And I feel when I’m gonna bleed cause of the stabbing pain. It’s scary seeing blood in the toilet. My family has no history of colon cancer.
Recently started getting this exact thing myself 26 year old Male. Healthy. Has external hemmorhoids before but they cleared up naturally. Healthy diet and weight.
Hi. Hope you’re well.Im not sure whether you still use this page as this post seems old now.
I have just been advised I have hemorrhoids. I was just wondering how long your hemorrhoids kept bleeding for - was it weeks / months or do they still bleed daily basis or ever other day ?.
Do they ever actually go away or is it all about trying to control the matter.
Any advice would be appreciated.
I would be interested in more info about your situations and how this is with you? I have had IBS for some 20 years and started bleeding at a similar stage of life (mid-twenties). I have bouts of its fine for a few weeks then others where my stomach is so loud, discomfort, diarrhea, many visits to the loo, loads of bright red blood in the pan, and the occasional slightly darker blood clot. Because I have lived with this for over 20 years it doesn't concern me too much as yet. What I have already read on here in the last hour it tends to conclude hemorrhoids. I would take any advice and comparisons to avoid that horrible inspection if I can. cheers guys
Hi!No I did not. I was too far along so they waited until 3 months after.
I'm going to post an update on this ... it's been quite a year!
Hello to anyone still following this!I posted over a year ago about my story and how it started back in 2017 while pregnant, and I thought I would update this for anyone else who is going through so much uncertainty.
My "how I got fixed" storey.
Since posting last, I had numerous other procedures done including swallowing 2 video capsules to capture what was happening in my GI tract. Nothing... but I was still losing blood!
My heamoglobin was dropping monthly:
Nov 2019, 57
December 2019, 68
Jan 2nd 2020, 57
On January 26 2020 I was admitted to the hospital because I dropped to 52 and I was passing out at home.
I was in organ failure mode, but I was so used to being this weak, that I didn't realize how bad I was! WTF??
After 3 days at the local hospital and 5 units of blood, I was transferred to Kingston General Hospital (Ontario Canada) where Queens University works out of; Great hospital!!!
I had numerous teams on my case now: GI, internal medicine, heamotology... I'm sure others.
After 10 days at KGH, 5 flex-sig scopes and a CT scan (btw, found out I'm allergic to that dye and had a bad anaphylactic reaction! So scary!!!). Countless conversations and ideas and at the end of it all, all they could see was Internal hemorrhoids.
Are you kidding me!!!? I've had theses since pregnancy and was ALWAYS told there was no way these would be causing this much blood loss!
It turns out they were the cause!!!!!!!!!!!
I went home after 2 days of being pushed down the OR board (emergencies and cancer patients get priority) and finally got called back for a stapled hemorrhoid ectomy.
IMPORTANT:
I should have waited! My body went into shock when I got home. Shakes, fever, fatigued.
I was physically drained and emotionally a mess. I mean depressed, crying, I was not in a good place and I'm not afraid to admit it. I missed my toddler (who cried for me each night), my husband, our dogs and our farm. It was tough to be away for so long in a situation I've never been in before.
On top of the emotional side, 5 flex-sigs is a lot of action down there in a short period of time... it was already so traumatized and I could barely stand when I got to the OR booking. I was in tears.
I should have gone home for 2 weeks to rest and recover and then had the surgery.
I really recommend letting your body heal before this surgery!!!!
Hemorrhoid Ectomies are horrible. Flst out, I don't care what your doctor says, stapled or traditional, they are brutal!
In my case with my pre-aggrivated area it was unusually horrible.
I developed a fissure and a centennial pile that had to be fixed 3 months later.
My recovery was long, hard and painful.
And COVID-19 hit during the start of all of this... it was not easy in every way.
** TIP: Go to a local livestock feed store and buy your epsom salt in bulk, 25kg bags!
$25.00 for 25 kg or $8-10.00 for 2kg... no brainer! It all does the same thing and you'll use it for months!!!! **
I also developed a fistula that is still to this day (DEC 2020)on the tail end of healing up. This is unpleasant and annoying but not near as painful as it was.
I'm not sure where my levels are at right now, but I'm well over 110. I can't handle iron infusions anymore, or supplements as they make me sick and I took a stand with my doctors... I wasted too much time being sick, I'm not doing it anymore. So it's rising on its own... I sometimes feel that it's still low, but that's OK.
I'm not bleeding anymore, my energy is back and I'm very aware of how much time I spend on the toilet. GET OFF, DON'T SIT THERE!
If you feel that bulky sensation, yet nothing is happening, it is the hemorrhoids! Get off the toilet! come back later!
The more you sit there, waiting, straining, anything, you are making it worse!!!!
I also took a food INTOLERANCE test, as my issue was never pushing too much or constipation, it was the opposite.
I have learned a lot from the food testing and it has been a game changer!
I hope this was helpful.
Don't give up, trust you gut feelings!
I've been having this blood in the stool an today noticed a thick dark red blood clot, I don't understand. I workout, I eat relatively well. I certainly hope its not colon cancer. I will just go to the ER tomorrow and get checked. These posts have been helpful.
Thank you for sharing your experience! This amount of blood in the toilet is scary, but I’m still able to tolerate iron pills, so not overly weak. You convinced me to step up my self-care and finally do the elimination diet my allergist prescribed. Did you find out which food was causing the symptoms that led to your hemorrhoids?
Hi everyone i am having the same problem im too scared now 😢😢
I have blood like this when I go, it could well be internal hemmroids, but I would still see a doctor. I'm seeing my colorectal surgeon soon about mine, I've had lots of surgery
No I haven’t but I have been having the same problem. It happened last weekend of June except it was really brown for me and it was more light. I have never had my first period, so it was scary, but I realized it was brown discharge. Then last night, I went to the bathroom and when I wiped, there was actual blood on the toilet paper. It wasn’t as heavy as the picture but it looked stretchy and droopy. There was also some brown discharge. I’m not pregnant for obvious reasons, but again, I’ve never had my first period before. When it happened the first time it lasted 3 days. Can someone please tell me if they know what’s going on Google isn’t helping. Btw I have a doctors appointment today, not for this but maybe I can see if I can get this checked up. Could it be my iron? I’m not the healthiest person alive.
Any recent update. Or any cure? Other then the normal from the doctor
Hello,
Going on 3 years of bleeding with clots on and off. First noticed it Dec2018, had a colonoscopy in Apr 2020 and it was clean said internal/external hemorrhoids of which I can see as well. Continue to bleed on and off, this time I asked for a CT feb 2021 and blood work. All came back normal. Still bleeding off and on. I’m kinda in a spot where I know they are hemorrhoids after being told by my Drs (but still in the back of my head think it can be cancer). To me it has to be hemorrhoids because 1, I don’t have any other symptom, 2, if it was C they would have found polyp or something causing the bleeding. I don’t want surgery as I know comes with huge risks. And I feel like a little bleeding here and there is completely tolerable for me. I haven’t watch my diet nor exercised as well. I have pictures if anyone would like to see them.
Can i see pictures
Your condition sounds just like mine. I drink too much, have a poor diet and dont exercise too much. Blood clots, low iron, low red blood cell count. Been to a gastro lots and they have banded my hemorrhoids. The bleeding comes and goes but he said the only way to fix it is surgery which is high risk and ine of the mostPainful.
Did anyone ever reply to your post? I’m having the same exact thing happening to me.
Still here bleeding after more than 3 years.
I’ve had rectal bleeding every day for 2.5 years. I was told it was just internal hemorrhoids. Then I become anemic due to blood loss. After my second colonoscopy and endoscopy they said I had ulcerative colitis. Just started taking medication, it hasn’t stopped all bleeding but certainly reduced it.
Hey this is happening to me right now there is quiet a bit if blood coming our every time I try to poop just wondering how everything went for you as I have a Dr appt tomorrow and am very scared as to what the outcome will be
I have had all of these symptoms. I had a routine colonoscopy in 2015. They removed several benign polyps. In 2019 started all of the bleeding issues and got sent for another full colonoscopy. They only found internal hemorrhoids that needed banding. I started eating a high fiber diet and exercising and it all went away. I gave up on the high fiber…low and behold, it’s all back again. I have an appointment to get the banding done. So, I have been struggling with this for 3 years and I am still alive. Yes, I have also been diagnosed as anemic. I had never noticed the blood clots until the GI doctor asked.
Did u have blood on your stool to
