Both of my knees used to hyper extend, but since undergoing ACL reconstruction my right knee no longer does it. I'm unsure if hyper extending knees would be linked to CMT.

Hi, I have CMT and historically had hyper-extension problems with my knees. On both legs, if I rotated on one foot, too far or with a heavy weight e.g. a suitcase in one hand, my knee would collapse sideways dumping me on the floor. I took up cycling about a decade ago and now it's my main form of recreation. I've not had knee problems since then, and I put that down to the strengthening of my quadriceps giving stability to the knee joints. Because CMT means I have very little muscle in my calves, the majority of the effort when cycling comes from my upper leg muscles.
