Hello I was diagnosed last year with CMT, and my feet seem to be getting increasing more painful if I'm on them for a while. I'm a nurse and work in ITU so unfortunately can't avoid sometimes. Anyone else have this problem? And any suggestions on footwear?

Burning feet!
Hi I have suffered with burning feet for years. I find when l do anything that gets my circulation pumping in my feet the pain is just going to get worse. Even sitting around with thick shoes on can start it off. You fell like putting your feet in bucket of water even with your shoes on. The answer is to keep them warm only.
Good luck . Dave.
I have spent a fortune on footwear. Finally I found what is best for me. Orthofeet.com. i spoke with a represe tative. She was very knowledgeable about foot proplems & their shoes. I have AFOs so those had to be accomadated for and my hammertoes needing a deep toe box. Then I have CMT in my hands so she recommended a shoe with a velcro fastner instead of a lace tie. She took all my problems added them together & came up with the best shoe. It is the best. I will never wear any shoe but Orthofeet. Lots of styles to pick from. Give them a look see.
Thank you for that I will.
Hi, Amie,
Perhaps it depends on what is causing the pain. It could be neuropathic pain (which I'm very fortunate not to have), or it could be possibly due to the pressure on parts of your feet caused by standing/ walking. I have assumed ( I have no medical training) that this is what sometimes makes it feel as if someone/something is peeling the skin off the soles of my feet (outer side where most of the pressure is). The only thing that relieves it is to take the weight off them, and they eventually feel better. Which I'm afraid isn't a very helpful suggestion for you with your work.
My boots (extremely wide, with extra deep toe boxes) and AFOs were made for me by the NHS, and apart from when this happens, and sometimes when I also have too much pressure on the ends of some (curled) toes - they are very comfortable. I had finally given up on trying to find anything myself - even Widerfit are too narrow at the toe end.
I hope you have good support from your friends/family - as well as the NHS - with coping with your CMT
Thank you, I think it's neuro pain but exasperated by standing unfortunately.
My mother who passed away at 62 breathing problems!!!!! Mmmmmm. She worn flipflops in the snow due to her feet burning. I'm the same but tend to walk bare foot anywhere. My feet get hot it murder but do is cold feet which I also have. Wtf x
Hi Amie! I have CMT 1a. I was diagnosed at 9yo. I am a psychiatric nurse, I work in patient 12hr shifts. I do not have the burning but I have R sided sciatica and reduced sensation in my R foot d/t wearing improper shoes for a long duration (8mo). I am also looking for good foot wear. I am also looking for relief from leg cramps, twitching and neuroalgia mostly right sided. Let me know if you find a solution.
Hi, Avanyk,
I take quinine sulphate for leg cramps. I only get them very occasionally but they are pretty bad. Doctors don't like prescribing it though, because of serious side effects, so if you cramps are frequent it wouldn't be suitable.
We all have very individual requirements for footwear, and I don't know what's available in the US.
Best of luck with finding solutions for your problems.
