Early onset arthritis in both my hips

Hi, this is my 1st post.

I've been Diabetic Type 2 for 15+ years, originally on just Metformin 500mg x2 x3 daily over the years one thing led to another and I'm now on the massive list bellow, I suffer with neuropathy in both hand and right hip.

I recently went through a spell of just falling over (no warning) after a few of these spell and several visits to my GP she booked a X-Ray to see if I had suffered a fracture, no fracture but the X-Ray spotted that I had early onset Arthritis in both my hips. I was struggling at work hobbling about, I worked in a Adult Gaming Centre (Arcade really) I was fired about 2 weeks(11 years of work)(my original boss of over 10 years sold his business to big company, and I was taken on under tupe) but due to a error I made at work and them asking about the medication I was taking, my line of thinking was they didn't ask and I didn't tell, when I showed them the list and some side affects, I was fired

So I'm out of work at the moment and on top of everything else the pain in my left hip is unbearable, I can walk about 50/75 metres and I've got to stop, I'm 43 this year and my GP says they don't want to operate as a hip replacement would only be good for 10/15 years, so after many visits to my GP I'm now on oramorph which gives some relieve, but I'm starting to feel low, not working brings me down and at least when I was working I was getting exercise, I just don't know where and what to do!!!

Hi Adrian-Morgan

I am so genuinely sorry to read this and I sincerely hope that you can find some resolution and relief to your situation. I would have thought that it would be worth your while trying to claim disability benefits?

I have pasted you two links below from the GOV.UK website on how to claim ESA and PIP:

gov.uk/pip/how-to-claim

gov.uk/employment-support-a...

Your local [I]Job Centre Plus should have a disability employment adviser who should be able to help and advise on how to get back into work. It could be that a change of carer or working less hours would be more appropriate for you? You could subsidise your income with a disability benefit?

If you find that you cannot physically get into work due to mobility issues, then the GOV.UK also has a scheme called Access To Work whereby you could have a paid taxi service provided for you? I have pasted the link for this below also:

gov.uk/access-to-work/overview

I want to genuinely and sincerely wish you all the best of luck, and please take care of yourself

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

Thank you ever so much for your kind words and thanks for your advice, I would never known about the taxi to work scheme.

After so many years in the same job the whole system has changed so much. I've just had the joy of spending over 1hr on the phone to the job centre and then 20+ pages online for housing benefit, and then to top it the wonder of filling in job applications on line and then the joy of a phone interview, and being rejected because you didn't answer the perfect answer. I didn't expect the world to stay the same, but wow, I long for the days of at least seeing someone face to face in a interview, it feels so impersonal.

I do not like having to use the phone or online for these kinds of things as you cannot beat interpersonal interaction with another human being! Good luck my friend with getting everything sorted.
