What does it mean when platelets continue to decline while on FCR?
Could be a number of causes...but some drop is common...you must be closely monitored by your doctor to watch out for possible ITP or other auto immune conditions.
Hi chemo effects the good cells as well as the bad cells. When blood samples are taken before Chemo its to test things like immune system and platlets. If necessary the hospital can give you platlets and other things to boost your good cells. Good luck.
Before I started FCR in February I also had ITP. This meant that my platelets were up 'n' down all the time. On my first session they were as low as 50 but over the months they've got higher and higher. I've now finished FCR now and my last platelet count (November) was 223 - which is good. Just keep an eye on things and let your Haematologist/Specialist Nurse know if you start to bleed or bruise.
Not sure of where you are in the world but from my experience here in the UK, they (the consultants) don't seem to be too bothered about changes in platelet levels unless they fall below 100.
All the best and take care.
