Veneticlax and rituxmnab

Hi all

5 months into my treatment and all is going so well, back at work, feeling good, skin issues all cleared up . Got two more cycles of rituxmnab to go then 18 months on veneticlax.

My question is , since I have been on treatment and I was in a poor way prior to treatment. I stopped drinking any alcoholic drinks and have not had any since last October,as I really wanted to make sure the treatment had the greatest chance of success. Think I might wait until I have had my last round of rituxmnab, but I do enjoy a beer every now and then when socialising etc. How did others get on with having a few beers etc whilst on veneticlax.

I'm told it's safe to do so ,but would prefer the experience and views of this wonderful community.

Thanks

Jason

Hi cartwheels,

Most of our treatments put extra stress on our liver and kidneys, and alcohol adds more stress, so many doctors will watch the results of all those liver function tests during treatment. If your doctor is happy with your test results, many will allow moderate / low alcohol intake and watch to see if your liver is still happy too.

Here is a quote from Search Labs | AI Overview

Venetoclax is primarily eliminated from the body through the fecal route after being metabolized by the liver. A minimal amount, less than 0.1%, is excreted in urine. The drug undergoes hepatic metabolism, primarily via CYP3A4/5 enzymes.

You may want to be carefull with the "Grapefruit" caution and drug / drug interactions with other drugs that affect the CYP3A levels since those also affect the liver and residual Venetoclax levels.

Hello cartwheels

I don't drink much, but when I do I drink non-alcohol beer. I however did not drink at all while on treatment.

I drank non-alcoholic beer during Rituximab infusions. I recommend Peroni and Stella Artois. They taste like the real thing.

Yes I'm drinking non alcoholic beer too , best I have found is still peters brewery without. And Guinness. Taste good and helps join in but after 2 I really don't feel lik having anymore. Just shows the addiction of alcoholic beer.

During treatment I really didn’t reduce my alcohol consumption and have had good luck so far (knock on wood). I kinda figure a beer or two isn’t going to hurt anything and my oncologist had no problem with it either…..
