Warm welcome to you.I just finished O and V two months ago. Number one in my mind is to drink at least the minimum suggested amount of water. You will feel better if you do!
Next, have your own crash cart drug remedies with you at home and when you go out. You never know when your body might experience side effects from the drug protocol. My portable basket I took with me everywhere had. Benedryl for allergic reaction, Odansetron for Nausea, Baclofen for hickups and muscle cramp, tums for heartburn, Citrizine (zertec) daily to help allergic reactions, Nauzene chewables when Odansetron did not work, prescription pain pill with tylenol because ibuprofen was a no no and flonaise as needed.
Thats my advice, all the best to you. The treatment is quite effective!
I agree with all that Pacificview says. I also think it’s important to get plenty of rest. Your body will be working hard with all the drugs on board so if you feel the need to lie down just do it! My husband is getting better at making his own dinner occasionally!
I hope it all goes well for you.
O and V is an excellent treatment.
I'm just about to finish V and O having been in your situation this time last year. As has already been said use the help and advice of everybody on this site. It's invaluable.
You need to be well organised! I found I needed to really read the treatment booklet several times as it is difficult to assimilate at one go and to make sure I listed all the initial appts with the blood tests etc.
Prior to starting with your first infusion make sure you are well hydrated as Pacificview said.
The first part of the first infusion was the hardest. I was exhausted when I got homme that night and slept until it was time to go back to the hospital for part 2.
Make sure you have plenty to read, listen to or watch while you are having the infusions though you may well find you sleep. I think I was most worried about having the infusions in case anything should happen and I had a bad reaction but you are so well looked after by the nurses on the unit.
I don't know what your home situation is but my husband was in hospital at the same time so I stocked up on supermarket ready meals that you just put in the oven and plenty of fruit and veg. Just make life as easy as you can for yourself.
I tolerated the medication well luckily so I didn't need the anti nausea pills or anything else.
Hope this is helpful and I wish you the very best of luck.
