I take Venetoclax for CLL. can I take Glucosamine to help with painful knees?
Glucosamine: I take Venetoclax for CLL. can I... - CLL Support
Glucosamine
My wife has been taking Cosamin DS for her joints for years while on Imbruvica, Venetoclax and now Acalabrutinib. No side effects, very helpful and her CLL doctor has had no problem with her doing so.
Thank you for raising this issue. I have developed painful knees, one shoulder and one hip recently. This was something that my CNS told me could happen with Acalabrutinib. I was told to just take paracetamol but I would rather have a more gentle solution. I take a cod liver oil plus multi vitamin capsule and a vitamin D tablet and have wondered about Glucosamine. I will ask my consultant.
Alice is cod liver oil ok with Acalabrutinib ? I stopped all fish oil’s when I started on Ibrutinib.

Cosamin DS repairs and replaces cartilage damage in joints. It does not require a prescription as it is a supplement from Bovine trachea. (cartilage) It is used by veterinarians for hip problems in older dogs and professional athletes with knee, elbows and shoulder joints, etc.
You start with 3 or 4 pills for two weeks and if it helps drop down to 2 a day. It only works in about 75% of arthritis cases...so it may not work at all as everybody is different and there are numerous types of rheumatoid arthritis as well. The best is made by a company called Nutramax. They hold the patent, everybody else is a cheap knock off that is not very reliable.
I have been taking Glucosamine for years for a painful ankle. It works a treat. Over 20 years ago a GP told me it “couldn’t possibly work”, so I stopped taking it. The pain returned after two or three weeks, so I resumed and the pain went away and has stayed away. Since then I have had chemo for my CLL, nine years remission, then ibrutinib, Acalabrutinib and now Venetoclax for a year so far. I have never suspected any problems with glucosamine and continue to take it daily. I haven’t encountered any suggestion that it might be a problem, and my consultant is fine with it.
As always,I find answers to my issues from people here. I started acalabrutinib,6 weeks ago. Gout like in my toes, raised red hurting bumps on my shoulders, knees, ankles and my hands, hips and pelvic pain and I assume from the acalabrutinib. So I'll try the suggestions from you guys.
Thanks so much everyone.
Hello 234me, yes many suffer from the bone/skin issues plus them headaches in the beginning with Acalabrutinib. Many swear coffee helps & I know movement helps with the bone/joint pain. If & when you can remember to stay hydrated & fight the fatigue to walk a bit because movement really does help. Well good luck on this new journey, the new meds are wonderful but not without side effects for most of us. #GODSPEED🙏🏾
hi. I asked my consultant this very question last week as I am also on Venetoclax and she said glucosamine was fine. Hth
Yes you may take glucosamine but still it's better to ask your doctor first. I would recommend you this one amazon.com/Glucosamine-Chon..., its glucosamine chondroitin supplement, I like it a lot and still no side effects.
