Not having insurance may be better for getting Imbruvica / ibrutinib from AbbVie / Pharmacyclics, they might decide to provide it free of charge to you.

Having insurance might require a copay, but on two occasions my insurance refused to cover, my doctor's staff and the specialty pharmacy that distributes my targeted drugs figured out how to get it provided by the drug manufacturer at no cost, no insurance, no copay.

As  LuzyCLL suggested, get your doctor's office (hopefully a CLL expert doctor) involved, and contact the LLS.org they can advise which way the wind is blowing today for your situation.

Once you get your Imbruvica costs arranged then you should get medical insurance to cover all the other aliments that plague and infect us as well as our normal aging. (In both cases when I got drugs at no cost, the drug company just renewed my grant each year, without asking if the qualifying reasons had changed).

Thank you for info,I see my oncologist end of July..I live in Massachusetts and they will put me on health connector .I'm currently on mass health..again great info..ty

I am on Acalabrutinib and also Medicare. I am over 65. I started with grant money to pay for the medication. I soon ran out of grant money. The financial navigator through my oncologists office connected me to the manufacturer, AstraZeneca, and I qualified for free medication as long as I keep my income under a certain amount. I am turning 70 this year and still working. My choice. It gives me an excuse to cut back on my work, which I probably needed! As others have said...there is financial help out there. If I had some more information, I could answer your question. How old are you?, even if under age 65 are you on Medicare?, what State do you live in? When you say the State dropped your insurance, was that Medicaid or an Employer Health Plan?

I live in Massachusetts and currently on mass health..I just came back from social worker and I'm staying on this plan till October ,then they will hook me up thru health connector.im.54

Hello there shout out to you as well..yes Massachusetts def has the best insurance and resources ..mass health agent hooked me up with insurance ..I can stay on mass health for a bit,then will be helped thru connector

you can also try to look on the manufacturer website. many have "copay" programs that cover the cost of copay or complete payment for the drug. My copay is covered for Calquence. It was a very welcome discovery!

I have two oncologists. (1) my local, (2) Dana Farber in Boston. Both referred me to the financial navigator. There is plenty of help out there. Check out LLS.org for more help. Your Social Worker can help you get onto disability if you need to. If you go that route, contact a disability lawyer for help. If your claim gets accepted, the lawyer will take 1/3 of the back money, not your monthly check. Over the years, I have helped some of my clients apply for disability. Again, unsure if you need to go that route! Take care!
