Hey, folks, to my surprise yesterday, as I was doing some googling on supplements and Covid, MY OWN POST headline appeared as a result, followed by the post (the one that said asymptomatic covid--Monolaurin?) It was on google's first page of results. Can anyone fill me in on how this happens? Glad I didn't have any identifying info. Was there someway I should have made the post private (I always forget about that). Thanks in advance, adminstrators.

Absolutely Vlaminck which is why we keep advising posters to click the ‘community only’ box when they post. Otherwise it’s an open post for everyone and can be captured for the net.

You only need to restrict posts to the community not responses but responses can also become publicly visible if the original poster hasn’t locked it. There needs to be a little padlock next to your post and I note you haven’t locked this one either 😉

To lock your post retrospectively is quite simple. Just click on the downward arrow next to ‘More’. The menu will allow you to edit and from this you can be taken to the restrict to the community box. It’s ‘open to everyone’ as it’s default position (HU naturally don’t want to be invisible publicly). Just change it to ‘community only’ and save your post. It will reappear with the little padlock next to it.

That way your boss, neighbours or in-laws don’t accidentally get access to things you’d rather they didn’t know! Also never use an identifiable avatar name.

Of course we do need unlocked posts finding their way onto google as that’s where many of our members find us.

Posting with the default option, that is posting about your health unlocked, is how posts are picked up by Google and about 3/4 new members find us. I've explained this in the post, along with how to lock your post.

As you have discovered, our community has a fairly robust process for ensuring posts with identifying information are highlighted to the poster and changed, either by the poster (so they learn the how's and whys), or by an admin.

There are well over 300 communities on HealthUnlocked and a report on the percentage of locked posts by community run a few years ago, found that there were only a couple of communities with a higher percentage of locked posts than ours. Those communities were supporting members sharing very sensitive personal information.

At the bottom, before posting, you have several options. These can always be edited, if you post unlocked and go "oops" and want to change it.

This is an UNLOCKED post, anyone on the Internet can see

Thanks, Lion Shaman. Actually, I wasn't number 1, but I was one of the top 3 on the first page -- close?
