The good news is our family members have been testing for covid prior to meeting with my wife n I (we both have cancer) for quite sometime now. That’s a good thing to do, cus previous covid positive tests have stopped a few prior gatherings from happening (we end up doing a Zoom meeting as Plan B).
Bad news, it’s happen again, crap 💩 ! … so no big T-day gathering here, covid has re-struck, double crap 💩 ! Our oldest son, n entire family (wife n grandkids) tested positive today. So looks like Plan B (Zoom) for T-day.
It was ironic to hear that bad news, it came at the same time I was watching the White House briefing, which mostly covered the recent surging covid cases in the US (and abroad) and the likely large spike in covid (plus flu, RSV) cases this winter.
The briefing noted that there are still 1/3 of US unvaccinated against covid n only 13% have gotten the new booster.
As science/data proves… it’s the unvaccinated that will likely get a rough case of covid (and maybe long covid), are more likely to be the ones hospitalized and/or unfortunately become a death statistic. 😞
Point of post is to encourage covid testing before holiday gatherings … you might not have symptoms, but yet you might have it.
Be wise, be safe (eg, keep on masking!) n …. Suggest take a pre-gathering covid test. Have a great holiday, best you can … Cheers!

We are not going to test for covid before Thanksgiving gathering, because daughters and grandkids are all sick with respiratory infections. Wife and I will celebrate by ourselves with Swiss cheese fondue, better than turkey anyway. We will also be celebrating our wedding anniversary as well.
That's how I handle gatherings with friends and family, too. I don't care what you're sick with...if you're symptomatically sick or even just feel "off" (or you were sick within 48 hours of seeing me), we can reschedule. Every illness sucks for me, and it does help people understand that point very clearly when it's always "all" (instead of "well, this isn't Covid, so it should be fine" or "it's just allergies, probably").
But if you're not symptomatically sick and have not been, I'm happy to see you. I don't worry about anyone being "asymptomatically sick" around me, b/c I'd probably stress myself out if I did.
So, no one tests to see me. They just make to sure to feel good and to leave the coughs, sneezes, sniffles, and vomit at home...

Me too Pin. My daughter, son-in-law and grandson are cancelling turkey plans as grandson has a fever. Gets so tiresome having to think about all of this. But the upside is we are still here to enjoy the time we do get to have with others, albeit quite a bit less than we would like. I hope you will find something to enjoy for the holiday anyway. We’ve gone to a “home-n-away” T-Day half family at our home other half away but will Zoom-up with all.
Wife n I have taken up new instruments! (ukelele n e-guitar) n will “rock-out” a T-Day Zoomed concert featuring; “Smoke on the Water” n “Wish You Were Here”.. figure gotta adjust those sails when the seas get a little rough!
Thank you for the reminder. So sorry your family plans had to be scrapped. I am taking the plunge with 2 other family members being immunocompromised because of heart problems-- I will go to my nieces for TG, it will be the first time I have been with the family since 2018.
I will keep distance, wear a mask and eat in a separate area with ventilation. I am also a taking a box of masks for others.
The weather is to be much better than we have had for two weeks which have been much colder than November usually is. I am hoping we can all get out for a walk or two instead of milling or lounging around in the house.
Your Plan B sounds delicious and I hope you have a bright, sunny day for you and your wife to be able to walk a bit, if that is something you are both able to do.
I find I am a bit closer to nature now as I walk and have gotten to know many of my neighbors. It is not unusual to meet other walkers on holidays that I have not been able to be with family. A brief chat with a couple people along the way who share their plight--why not with family--can be helpful in bringing home the fact of all our differences and our not being alone in not having what is the ideal. There is no replacement for the family experience, of course, but having some interchange with others when we begin to feel the sorrow of separation from family can be of some solace.
The following is my latest encounter with nature as I walked in my neighborhood which is on hilly terrain--so viewing at a distance is enabled.
I am in a neighborhood that was pretty much divested of its trees when it was built and we are now investing in planting trees for the future.
We do have some old growth wooded areas on 2 sides of our neighborhood and it was there as I walked yesterday, I watched a bird dive bomb what looked like a dead tree--all the leaves were gone.
There was a squawking bird (I could not see) in a nearby evergreen that kept squawking as the dive bomber rose, circled and dove back over and over into the bared tree branches.
By the time I was standing even with the bared tree, (some distance from) the dive bomber flew away. Since the squawker continued, I stopped and scanned the bare tree, knowing there had to be a hawk somewhere in it. And sure enough--it was standing ramrod straight in line with upward growing branches. And just as I spotted it, it flew off and the squawker stopped its warning.
