Update On COVID 19 AND STROKES

I realize that this article has nothing to do with CLL, but as a member of this site I feel it important to alert my fellow CLL group of new medical findings that are of utmost importance. This is the article from the Washington Post: washingtonpost.com/health/2...

Consider that a well known doctor who does research at New York Mount Sinai said this in this article: “This is much too powerful of a signal to be chance or happenstance,”

In essence the first wave of COVID 19 hit mostly those who were Elderly or had other serious disorders like Diabetes, Cancer, etc. Now they are beginning to recognize enough cases that were young people who have had serious and fatal type of brain strokes. There also have been young people with heart attacks. Both strokes and heart attacks are related frequently to Clots.

The feeling that I am getting is either that this anomaly was missed in analysis of first wave victims of COVID 19, or maybe there is a second wave right now that is mutated and causing alot of clots and thus cases of young people with strokes and heart attacks. Forgive me if that was not a great gramatical sentence, but the idea I believe was clear. I'm scared. I'm not in the group that this new attack is subject to, but I care about everyone. Its my nature. I also have three young adults 47, 43, and 36 to worry about.

I'm not trying to scare anyone; we all in this group have enough to be scared about. I just want anyone I care about to know of this growing area of new knowledge about COVID 19. Be safe, continue to stay indoors as much as you can do so (until we have a vaccine), and get tested for antibodies to COVID as soon as the test is readily available to you.

Thank you for that very interesting article Carl . This virus is truly an unknown. I was hospitalised for 2 weeks with acute pancreatitis . Had to be triaged as a suspected Covid patient as some patients are also presenting with digestive issues . This is a little known fact , here in Ireland anyway . Happily swab for CV 19 was negative but despite numerous tests they could find no cause for the pancreatitis. I was discharged last Saturday and am still recuperating in quarantine . There is a condition called auto immune pancreatitis ...CLL related ? Who knows . I also suffer from blocked carotid arteries so the Washington post article is helpful if worrying . Stay safe . Kind regards . Emer

Did they not find a very elevated amylase level Emer? Mine was off the scale when I had acute pancreatitis many years ago (pre-CLL days). Interesting that there could be an auto immune link to CLL. Mine was caused by a little stone stuck in the bile duct. The pain is like no other other and doctors say it’s up there as one of the most severe pain you can experience! 🥴

Must be scary to be in hospital for anything at the moment because Covid is always suspected.

Hope you feel better soon.

What I remember being told was my inflammatory levels were high Newdawn . To be honest it’s all a bit of a blur as I was in so much pain and given morphine injections . I do know they found no stones or anything sinister that concerned them , was on IV antibiotics for 10/12 days . I was in too much pain to be scared to be honest . The only times I felt really afraid were when I was told I was being admitted as a suspected CV patient and when the test was negative was moved from isolation to a respiratory ward . I summoned the strength to fight to get out of the Respiratory Ward , threatened to get dressed and go home where I’d feel safer ! I think the most difficult part of currently needing hospitalisation is not being able to have loved ones advocate on your behalf or listen to what the consultants are saying . I’ve asked for a report to be sent to my CLL consultant but he’s not seeing patients at the moment unless they are admitted to either of the hospitals he works in . I spoke to his secretary and she said the best she could do at the moment is have him look at the report .

Im much improved thank you , have had 8 days of quarantine and being spoiled in one of my daughter’s houses . Heading home today . My poor mum’s dementia has deteriorated quite significantly in my absence and I need to be there for her . Hope all is well with you x
