Newly diagnosed and shoulder pain

Hi, I was diagnosed with CLL this past summer and I'm currently on watch-and-wait. The Haematology Dept conclude I've probably had it for the past 3-4 years as some of my lymph nodes were very slightly enlarged then but none of the other symptoms were showing up then. I had a check-up just before Christmas with the doctors satisfied that things are OK.

However, about 2-3 weeks ago, I started having pain in my right shoulder. Deep Heat won't ease it. A google seach has shown that shoulder pain can be CLL-related. Has anyone else experienced shoulder pain with CLL?

Thanks, SAT_poet

Hi SAT_poet,

Welcome to the club that none of us wanted to join. Your experience is familiar to most of us. CLL usually develops slowly and the early indicators are often dismissed for a few years as "probably an infection". Fortunately early detection and treatment is not needed.

I would check out other medical problems through your doctor before assuming it is part of CLL. There is no sense in suffering something else that could be solved.I'd like to point out that this forum, The CLL Society, and LLS are the better choice for CLL information, Google, while not evil, leads to many old studies, misinformation, and even potential scams. The closer you stay to verifiable, well regarded, sources .gov or .org the less worry you may face. There are a few I've missed but take note of those when mentioned in posts, you get more bang for your buck.🙂 Reply (3)ReportMoreNext postsPaxlovid treatment for Covid ? Hi I have unfortunately tested positive for Covid two days ago. Hi SAT_poet

I'm sorry, the above was an accidental repost from someone else. No idea how that happened.

I have had left shoulder pain for a while and I

Blamed CLL and/or my Venetoclax treatment. It was intermittent variable pain and in particular disrupted my already erratic sleep. I eventually found a really good physio (at a local cancer support service) who diagnosed it as soft tissue injury in the shoulder probably due to de-conditioning from lack of activity due to so many bouts of illness over the last few years. A gentle exercise program, regular adjusted as I improve, is slowly easing the discomforts.

Best wishes for resolving your aches.

Have you been considered as having polymyalgia Rheumatica as your symptoms are classic for that. I have had it for five years and CLL four and half. I came off the steroid treatment in November ‘22 when I felt great. Unfortunately the pains are coming back, especially at night. I’m constantly asking myself is it PMR or CLL. Still haven’t found the answer yet.

sorry a correction to above post. PMR is across both shoulders neck and upper arms. On reading your question again I realised you are saying right shoulder only.
