Huge drop in PLT(platelets) while under CLL treatment with RITUXAN

Did anyone experience a huge drop in PLT(platelets) while under CLL treatment with Rituxan? Mine has gone from 389 to 76 after the 4th and last treatment. Doctor wants to wait to see if PLT will improve.

Thanks,

larrcow

Hi larrcow,

-

Platelet issues are common, especially just before starting treatment and during treatment with most of our drugs.

For some it is a short duration and as the bone marrow recovers from treatment the numbers improve on their own.

-

If not, then the doctors need to step through "differential diagnosis" to eliminate the common causes one by one, to zero in on the root cause.

Hi Larrcow,My platelets were 171 when I was diagnosed in September 2001. I’ve had many treatments — 18 of which involved Rituximab. Suffice it to say that 198 is the highest I’ve ever recorded in 21 years, 76 is the lowest. Sadly, I think it’s part of your new normal. I’m still here 21 years later. I wish you well.
