Large Bruises

I have been on imbruvica for about 27 months. My blood is mostly stable but my platelets are 8800 or here in Canada it is indicated as 91 and 150 is normal. My issue is I have had small bruises that appear on my arms and hand and then within a month they go away but come back later in different areas on my hands and arms and some on my leg but lately I am getting very large bruises on my stomach. I have one large one 7.62CM wide. The other ones on my hand and arms are only about 2.5 CM so I wonder about the one that is 7.62CM and the next biggest bruise is 4CM. Before I call my hematologist about the large bruises perhaps someone can give me an idea about why this is happening.

Hi Kmegood! When did you have latest blood work? Platelets can change unexpectedly, even if they are good. Do you eat blood thinners? If your large bruises are quite new I would not hesitate to call the dr for advice.

Best wishes

Christina

I had bloodwork July 5. The smaller bruises my Dr never made any issue about them. The bruises were always small in size but now have 2 large ones.

I would see doctor because it is an important change and one that merits labs and consultation and visual.

Too long. I was having heart issues and moved my cardio appt from Dec to August and my two tests from Dec to September. Better to be safe than sorry and better to have answers rather than worry for two months!!

I have had a massive bruise on my thigh since January but platelets are fine. I switched from ibrutinib to acalabrutinib in March and was off meds for a week in between. The bruise faded a lot when I was off treatment but has not changed since I started acala. I have had a scan which didnt show up anything and my consultant is wondering if it might be panniculitis (I had to look it up!). Apparently new research is suggesting possible link to ibrutinib, but dont think it is anything to worry too much about.

thank you for your information I will mention this to my doctor. I called yesterday to my doctors nurse to report about this large bruising and I have an appointment for a new blood test and we’ll see about those results and I have a follow up anyways with the haematologist in October but if the blood test this coming week is not looking good the haematologist will see me earlier
