Cuts, Bruises & CLL

Good day everyone. I have a question regarding cuts and bruises. Is it common to find that you bruise more easily or that your skin gets little cuts here and there? It appears my skin “rips”more easily, particularly on my hands. I have not begun treatment yet.

WittyApricot, yes, I my skin "ain't" what it used to be. I do bruise more easily and cuts appear out of no where! So, I am more diligent to protect myself. I wear "arm sleeves" and gloves when I garden to avoid bad scratches from bushes. I do find that there are times when this condition appears to be not as prevalent. I am 73 and in W&W 3 years. WBC near 100, but all other counts in safe zones. Your questions are good ones we, "CLL Warriors", need to made aware of. 🙂 Sandra

Thank you for your response—I literally think my fingernail from one hand hit the other and cut me. (And my fingernails are not that long and definitely not pointy or sharp.) I can’t believe it! It has gotten gradually worse in the last five years. And sometimes like you said, out of nowhere!

I have experienced the same. I recall standing in the kitchen and I could feel something dripping on my foot (I was barefoot). I looked and it was blood. I'm like "where is that coming from?". A quick check revealed a chunk of skin pull back and bleeding. I had brushed against the doorframe and, while it wasn't enough to even catch my attention when it happened, it was enough to start bleeding. I guess I'm literally "thin skinned" now.

Oh that reminded me of finding a blister on my foot had suddenly started bleeding and my living room floor ( luckily wood ) looked like a crime scene, because it bled so much, very scary.

WittyApricot sadly yes far more common. I often find unexplained bruises in strange places. Be careful with pedicures because if inexperienced that can lead to bleeding. I occasionally get painful splits in the skin at the sides of my thumbs and have discovered Hexomedine ( think on Amazon ) a French antiseptic liquid that is amazing.

I’ve been waking up with bruises in weird places…like I beat myself up at night. Lol. I have also been just randomly having my skin bled….the weirdest is my fingernail cutting my other hand…. I just started gushing —literally out of my hand. My boyfriend looked at me like …what? He then said that is what you get for talking with your hands. Hahaha

And pedicures I can’t imagine going for those—I’ve avoided for last couple years.

Hi! If you have a lot of bruises, it could be good to check your platelets in a common blood work, if it was not very recently done. Even if might be common in CLL with bruises, (I dont know) better safe than sorry with platelets.Best wishes.Christina
