In the "DO-HEALTH" randomized clinical trial with 2,157 relatively healthy participants aged 70 plus, supplementation with daily high-dose vitamin D3 plus omega-3s, combined with a simple home exercise program (SHEP), showed no significant improvement in systolic or diastolic blood pressure, nonvertebral fractures, physical performance, infection rate, or cognition jamanetwork.com/journals/ja...

In a 3 year follow-up, however, there was a significant cumulative reduction in the risk of developing an invasive cancer frontiersin.org/articles/10...

Thanks bennevisplace,

I suspect that if a drug company could pack the benefits of regular exercise into a pill, they would make a big fortune in the multiple billions. Whether the Vitamin D or the Omega-3 s add anything to the exercise benefit may be debatable.

I'm all for individuals taking responsibility for their own well being and health, as far as they are able to.

Early 2019 the NHS leadership structured their Long Term Plan around preventative medicine longtermplan.nhs.uk/areas-o... Obviously Covid has set back the implementation of some services, but the intention is good.

I haven’t heard those words ‘NHS Leadership’ in a few years!

I’m not at all sure about Omega3. There is so much conflicting ‘evidence’’ and, coupled with the fact that much is from krill, a valuable food source for many marine creatures, I no longer take it. However, exercise, at any level, and D3 are simple, don’t harm the environment and there is evidence of lots of benefits. That’s my plan.

For me the most striking result here was the combination being much greater than the sum of the parts.

Near us in Sussex is a producer of linseed in various forms, a good source of omega 3.

Just had my PICC line removed today 😊
