You, yes you - have a direct window on the beach and the fauna lazing in the sand !

You have a direct window, all day and all night on the beach, or the downtown plaza by webcams on the internet. Example: WEBCAM PLAZA COLON SANTO DOMINGO shows what is going on 24 hours at the center of the old colonial Santo Domingo in the Caribbean. I have one older laptop sitting on a wall shelf which looks 24 hours on what is going on: Right now it is noon. A few tourists take photos of themselves sitting on the steps around the monument to the towering Columbus. A few locals cross on their way to other streets. Zillions of pidgeon race around on the ground. Later in the afternoon, students who have finished their classes are sitting on the steps and chat. Refreshment vendors circle with their carts. In the evening parents with their small children mill around the plaza. Near midnight lone poet-types sit on the benches and a flock of young adults hold a party while a dog or a cat meanders around the monument. I am "living" day and night on the plaza - visually. Of course there is a therapeutic mental and psychological impact. (The music the people on this plaza listen to is also 24 hours on the internet: TROPICAL 100 MERENGUE : Made for people who avoid terminal adulthood ). There are many active webcams on the internet that look at beaches around the world, and the people lazing in the sand. Also at tourists visiting vacation sites. I have two old extra laptops: On sits on a wall shelf looking at this plaza in Santo Domingo, the other old laptop sits on another shelf looking continously at FRANCE24 - France's global network: It keeps active and the people have character. I even refresh my basic French by looking at the captions in French. But I do not listen to the sound: It is just one of my windows out into the world....

I just love this! What a nice read with my breakfast coffee. I'm going to look at some remote webcams, it's grey and rainy here in Glasgow, I could do with a bit of the Carribean 😊

You can also listen to the music at all times : TROPICAL 100 MERENGUE , TROPICAL 100 SALSA . Each time 100 selections continously

So I’m not the only one who lives vicariously through webcams of some of my favorite places. It sure beats listening to so much negative news daily. Sometimes it’s the beautiful snow at Lake Tahoe and other times it’s the sunny beaches in the Caribbean. I can visit anywhere when I want to smile. Thanks for sharing. I sure love it. Sally

We are looking at webcams of ski resorts we have been to/will go to again in future.

Your post reminds me that I probably can find webcams of other places I've been that perhaps I can revisit, what a lovely thought, thanks so much fir the reminder.

Thank you for posting, I am technically challenged and had no idea this kind of thing was possible. I will have a google around and find a nice sunny beach somewhere to distract from shielding alone in grey, cold, damp England!

IDK about other places, but some of the cable and satellite TV providers in the US sometimes have a channel showing nature stuff. Underwater, skiing, beach, etc. There are real estate shows about folks buying lakefront or beachfront property that have good scenery. I like the NASA channel also, for outer space scenes. The Mars pics are some fascinating stuff (to me, anyway). If you have a "smart" device and can download the free Pluto TV app, there is a "Pluto travel" channel that shows a number of things around the world. There's a documentary on in a few minutes about archaeological sites, for instance. Downside to this free TV app---there's commercials.

Certain documentaries are also about nature/nature scenes that aren't inherently depressing. Like, something about how the people in a rainforest live, as opposed to one about how said rainforest is being destroyed. Although IDK if climate change is skewing these things more along the "we need to stop this NOW" type presentations.

The special aspect about webcams: Nothing is staged or scripted and nobody knows you are watching. An example is the 24 hour webcam: WEBCAM PLAZA COLON SANTO DOMINGO. The "live" people pursuing their thing, including children, also pidgeons and a dog or cat.... Real Life - now at this moment. Not canned by a production.

Try WEBCAM PLAZA COLON SANTO DOMINGO: What is going on in the town square during the day and the night in the most interesting city in the Caribbean. Nothing staged, nobody knows you are watching the ever changing scene. Also search indexes for "webcams".

There is one more : WEBCAM PLAZA ESPANA SANTO DOMINGO . This is the 24 hour webcam on Plaza Espana the square in front of Columbus mansion in Santo Domingo. The residence of Columbus' son in the early 16th century. The square is a civic recreation area and rimmed by open-air restaurants. Thus, except much after midnight, there is always some activity, unrehearsed.

This webcam : WEBCAM PLAZA ESPANA SANTO DOMIGO even comes with subdued sound. Right now it is midnight in Santo Domingo. Columbus Mansion is iluminated at the far end of the plaza. The webcam looks down on the open-air restaurants with the waiters carrying lights. There comes subdued sound of music and conservation from below up to the webcam camera. During the day the restaurants also operate, but the center of the large plaza is used by young people for various exercises.
