I just received a text message on Monday saying that my consultant had written to my GP recommending that I have a 3rd covid jab and to attend the medical centre (not ring for an appointment) between 1pm and 5pm on Wednesday or Thursday. When we got there there was already a long queue so we went and did a few jobs and went back. We joined queue for drop ins, there was another queue which was for people who had made appointments via 119. The appointments were running 40 minutes late but were taken before drop ins, we were just slotted in every few minutes. Oh, it was awful, wind and rain, umbrellas blowing inside out. I don't suppose it was any one persons fault but the system needs looking at. I couldn't seem to get the person doing my jab to understand that I would need a booster in six months. She just kept saying this jab would be on my GP's notes. All those people standiing in the rain were elderly and some very disabled. I will ask my consultant to write and explain. If that fails I will start pestering in April 2022.
3rd jab!!: I just received a text message on... - CLL Support
3rd jab!!
It’s hard isn’t it. I always feel I’m fussing and being a bit precious. In reality, I work with Covid patients and just want to keep myself as safe as possible.
At least you are now ready for winter. I attended the alliance of surgeries at a leisure centre. It saddened me to see so many old and infirm people, at least they were indoors but queuing. They struggled.
A humbling experience as I seemed so healthy and robust compared to them. We demand our jabs but there are so many worse off than us at the end of their lives.
Your last words resonated with me for I have frequently thought the same thing. I try to justify it by thinking our jabs are so that we may reach their age. On all occasions that I have been here, the elderly are always provided with a chair and an assistant has seen them in. It seems somehow sad and cruel I always think to watch the elderly queueing.Peggy
I had my 3rd jab yesterday – but had to wait for the full 6 months from the second. I asked the person administering the jab whether this would go down as 3rd primary or Booster, and explained I was classed as vulnerable due to leukaemia. He asked if my consultant had written to the GP and said that “there is a lot of confusion at the moment”. He said that he’d put a note on my (electronic) paperwork and if I needed another Booster in 6 months I would be called. However, I didn’t see him actually type anything on the PC, so it may have just been a standard reply to any query. I am due a haematology consultation in early May which hopefully will be a face to face rather than another phone call and will take it up again if, as I suspect, no further call for a booster arrives.
The organisation was also poor compared with the first and second jabs, with a Q of about 20 yds outside (which had increased to over 50 yds when I left) and a much longer Q inside the hall being used. I joined the Q about 5 minutes before my appointment time (ample timing for jabs 1 and 2) and was eventually jabbed just over an hour later. The Hall was laid out with 22 tables and PCs, but only 4 were in use. When I signed in I noticed that each time slot had about 6~8 people pencilled in so clearly they were planning on using a lot more "jabbers". No doubt someone will associate the lack of jabbers with BREXIT as with shortages of lorry drivers, farmworkers and abattoir workers 😂
