Travel insurance information for anyone taking statins

Thank you to everyone who has sent me suggestions on travel insurance.

I have managed to get full cover with Avanti including heart and CLL.

AS a matter of interest for everyone, I managed to get cover some months ago from Saga.

In medical screening I said I was taking statins and the representative said that was ok as it is a preventative medicine.

A health insurance consultation later told me that this was not correct and that insurance underwriters will not cover someone if they are taking any medication prescribed by a consultant.

I went back to Saga and a senior official there said that was correct and I would not have been covered for a claim when the underwriters found out I was taking statins!!

Saga gave me a full refund and apologised.

I have declared to Avanti that I am taking statins and they are covering me for heart as well as CLL.

I am in touch with organisations that are considering taking up this problem with underwiters.

It is nonsense that you cannot get insurance when you are taking statins that prevent you having a heart problem and therefore making a claim!

I suggest you speak to your insurers and see what they say, if I am right then please reort back.

Unless you had a previous heart attack or you have familial hypercholesterolemia statins will not prevent you from having heart problems. That's a myth. Convenient for those who sell statins pocketing billions annually. If you would like to have this statement backed up by an MD, please read the book which I referenced in my latest post.

I get my travel insurance through Forces Pensions society (I am eligible because Dad was in RN) they don't ask any medical questions and cover if you want to travel and its not against government or medical advice
