Routine mammograms while in W&W?

Hey, there, fellow cll-ers. I am in W&W, tho numbers spiked after vaccines (so will see in couple weeks how I'm doing now). My gynecologist recommends yearly mammogram -- had one last year, and was fine. She said yesterday she wants me to schedule another now, and I'm wondering. No special family history of breast cancer. What do yall think of this from the radiation standpoint. Harmful given the cll? Thanks in advance.

I have continued to have my mammogram each year and as of late it has been digital there by much less radiation. No family history but because CLL people are prone to soft tissues cancers so I have done the mammograms and the Paps’s annually. Due to my age and history of no issues they have stopped the Pap’s. I have had CLL for 32+ years.

These things are always a concern. We each have to make our own decisions and it is not always easy.

All the very best to you as you continue to travel on this journey.

I have also had regular mammograms each year. My immediate family have all had cancer diagnoses, including blood cancers, however there is no history of breast cancer in my family. My gynecologist also recommended that for me the benefits far out weigh the risks for yearly check-ups.

I am currently also on W&W, with my pertinent numbers slowly increasing as well as the size and number of my lymph nodes. I have been told by both my local doctor and my CLL specialist that I will be needing treatment at some point.

As Panz says, mammograms done digitally have less radiation, but if this were a concern for me I would definitely ask both my gynecologist and/or my hematologist/oncologist or my CLL specialist.

Wishing you all the best,

Debbie

I have been dealing with CLL since 1997...probably 1993 but wasn't diagnosed until '97. I went in last October for my annual mammogram...got a call the next day that something didn't look right. After a diagnostic mammogram and biopsy, I was diagnosed with Invasive Lobular Carcinoma. You could have knocked me over with a feather...absolutely no family history and couldn't feel anything unusual. Because it had been caught early, I had a lumpectomy and 33 radiation treatments. I am soooooooo glad I went in!
