Hyaluronic Acid and CLL

I have been using a Revitalift over the counter face serum that is 1.5% Hyaluronic Acid sold as a treatment for wrinkles and aging skin. I seem to remember somewhere that there is a tie to CLL. Does anyone have any info on this? TIA

This paper notes that CLL cells overexpress CD44, which is a receptor for Hyaluronic Acid, with the acid stopping CLL apoptosis in a mouse model: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/235...

as explored further in this paper: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/235...

I wouldn't think much of the Hyaluronic Acid, would get into your blood stream to noticeably increase your CLL, but if you are really concerned, see what difference you see in your lymphocyte count when you use it in the time between blood test as opposed to not using it.

Thanks. Think I will stop using it just in case. I had heard similar. Thank you for such a kind response.

Me, too! Great question, CBME! And, Neil, what can I say? Always brilliant! Thank you, both. x

Very interesting. I have used Retin A for years. It doesn't say Hyaluronic acid as an ingredient however I have seen that before on something.

I also use Retin A - a script cream called Tretinoin. Retin A is different from Hyaluronic Acid. I will keep using the Tretinoin and give up the HA just as a precaution.

I use the same thing.

Neil, thanks for your logical response. I have been using a couple of drops of hyaluronic acid on my face twice a day for several years. It doesn't seem to have made any difference in my counts. Phew!

Good Lord, I have been using this for a couple of months and never gave a thought to the fact that it might not be a good idea. I guess that’s another £40 in the bin, ah well it didn’t seem to get rid of the wrinkles anyway!

Thanks Neil

Blimey, I use Hylaluronic acid all the time! It’s in almost every beauty product on the market right now. Will have to read the report. Can’t believe it penetrates deep enough to prevent apoptosis but I won’t feel the same now slapping it on my face 😏

I looked up foods high in Hyaluronic acid which are many healthy foods we eat.

That was a great idea! I followed your lead and saw that broccoli is on the list. I am pretty certain that eating lots of broccoli has caused my numbers to go down. I wonder how much hyaluronic acid they gave those mice. I guess I'd better read the study.

That is interesting. Practically everything I eat is on the list. I eat broccoli almost every day as well as half of a baked yam. A banana every morning with 2 brazil nuts.

I'm going to keep eating those foods, but I'm going to stop using the hyaluronic acid on my face. It isn't affecting my CLL numbers but what if I had something carcinogenic on my face? (I've had several pre-cancer things burned off.) Be well!
