Acalabrutinib and early morning headaches

I have been on Acalabrutinib for 2weeks after 3.5 years of ibrutinib. I now frequently get headaches (mid forehead) about 4:00 a.m. I get out of bed at 7:00 a.m. The headache then begins to diminish and usually gone after an hour or so. I am not certain if it is related to the medication. Has anyone else experienced the same when starting the Acalabrutinib? Thanks for any comments you may provide.

Yep.. certainly have. A good strong cup of coffee generally cleared the headaches away. Depending on the severity of the headache I sometimes supplemented the coffee with paracetamol.

The headaches (for me) persisted for about three weeks and then faded away. We’re all different of course, but with luck you’re probably near the end of them.

The other side effects that I had were some petechia and some oral blood blisters. Both of which faded away after about a month.

Best of luck to you on your Acalabrutinib journey.

Headaches with acalabrutinib are a common side effect, almost as many people experience headaches as do not.

The good news is that these headaches are transient for most people, resolving in a few weeks:

The most common adverse effects of acalabrutinib measured in the three arms of the ACE-CL-001 trial were:

headache (39-46%),

diarrhea (47-58%), and

upper respiratory tract infection (24-36%.)

Most patients who suffered headaches reported that they resolved after several weeks, and acetaminophen (Tylenol®) typically brought relief.

Yes I’ve been on Acalabrutinib for a month now and do experience very mild headache in the morning which quickly disappears when I get moving around, more than worth it for the good blood results and deflated lymph glands!

Yes I also started taking Acalabrutinib 2 weeks ago and have experienced early morning headaches about 50% of the time. Thankfully they are not too bad and respond pretty quickly to Paracetamol. I’ve also had oral blood blisters which seem to recede after a couple of days. Thankfully all pretty minor considering the the potential benefits of taking Acalabrutinib.

I too have had bad headaches, like a migraine, starting about 1am and lasting for hours

Began Acalabrutinib 4 weeks ago. Severe headaches for about 10 days (migraines). I woke up all throughout the night. They lessened and now they’re rare. Coffee, Tylenol, and many other aids got me through that especially tough time. Good luck
