Hello Kyson3090 I have been taking venclexta for almost half a year now ,and when I started I had some very significant nausea for a couple of hours ,what I found to be very helpful to me was a couple of English muffins or some toast right before I dose in the morning, now I don’t even know I am taking it ,no side effects whatsoever,I do believe a sugar pill would have more side effects on me LOL!!! My body might have just adapted also by the grace of God ,and I wish the same for you also for it is an excellent treatment for cll 👍

Your pills should say take with food & water....if you haven't been maybe start doing so....if you have been, maybe a little less food? Or a different type of food? Is the nausea upper stomach or lower in intestines? Some of mine (nausea) was spleen changing size & pressing on intestines & stomach. When my spleen shrunk, the nausea after eating too much went away significantly. What are you eating when you take the Venclexta? High fat foods can increase the uptake by up to 50% which might trigger nausea if your blood concentration quickly spikes very high. Eating lower fat foods should decrease this sharp spike.

I agree SofiaDeo , started with hard boiled eggs = bad nausea lots of fat , moderately buttered toast = much happier tummy😋

Thanks everyone I take venetoclax for multiple myeloma which is an incurable cancer of the blood which I have had for 10 years. I have been on venetoclax for coming up 2 months and I was ramped up to 800 and had no problems until 3 weeks ago when this sickness started. I have tried all of your suggestions and thank you so much for replying I am going to try changing to taking it at night instead of the day.Thank you 💗

I have been taking Venetoclax for three months. I have very occasional bouts of nausea late in the evening but they only occur when I have taken the tablets after a very light dinner. A substantial meal means I don’t get nausea.

Thank you everyone for your input much appreciated . This has been going on for 3 weeks pretty much 18 hours a day. I have pretty much tried everything suggested and I have my oncologist and palliative care looking into it but I just feel sometimes the patients going through it have some good info. Thank you everyone who responded.Kyson 3090 💗

For what it’s worth, I’ve been on Venetoclax monotherapy for almost 3 years and I did have nausea issues — but only when I had eggs for breakfast. I now have eggs very rarely — for a treat — and no further issues.

I take it after lunch and avoid fatty food because it works more interner ginger tea helps too but dont drink to much it can increase blood pressure

I have been taking it for 18 months. I take it with/after a light lunch and find the nausea is generally worse if I have not drunk enough with it.

I have been on Venetoclax for 6 months and suffered nausea quite badly until I changed taking my tablets to just before I went to bed. Perhaps I still get nausea but now just sleep through it 😅 Either way I am cured.

Oh! Thank you so much for replying I also put a post up saying that I saw someone else who did exactly what you did and I thought that’s such a good idea. They posted how to go about how you change your dosage from morning to night but I lost the post. You are a godsend 😇 Would you mind telling me how you did it or did you just swap. Thank you so much 💗

Here's my reply about how you shift the time of day you take Venetoclax:

I did it over the course of a few days. I went from after breakfast, to after lunch, to after supper and then to bedtime! I really hope this works for you. x

Bless you 💗 your suggestion definitely makes sense and I will be doing it my only worry was changing the times but if you had no problems I should be good . My only worry is that I don’t sleep too well so I hope I don’t wake up and feel too sick to go back to sleep 😂😂 Thank you once again and I’m so glad it has worked for you and you are in good health Xx

I have woken a few times feeling a bit sick but probably because I am laying down it has passed and I’ve dropped off back to sleep. Let me know how you get on. x

Hi Kyson, sorry to hear of the nausea. I’ve been on Venetoclax 400mg daily for 20 months now and can only ever remember slight nausea once on the day I ramped up to the full dosage. I see that on 800 mg, you’re on double the dosage used for CLL so perhaps the issue is intensified.

As others have said, taking them with food seems to help and I always take mine early evening on a full stomach.

I hope you can find ease for this as nausea is pretty miserable. Presumably you’ve tried the anti-emetics they can give with it?

Best wishes going forward,

Newdawn

Newdawn thank you your post was really helpful. I have had multiple myeloma for ten years which is incurable and was diagnosed with lung cancer six months ago which could be why I am on 800mg and I live in Australia. I have tried lots of anti - metics over the years but your suggestion made me google a list of them and on that list they had some for opioids which I have been on for awhile and not had a problem but I will now bring it up with my pain management team and see what they think. So thank you for directing me in that direction I will see what they come up with. I hope I haven’t replied to you too late 😩💗 and also that you are doing well.

No problem Kyson, it’s just after midday here in the U.K. 😊

I really hope you can find some answers to this distress Kyson, you’ve had a hard enough time with the second cancer diagnosis.

Best wishes,

Newdawn

Your too kind but I am so blessed with great family and friends and I’ve had such a wonderful life. 💗 I wouldn’t change a thing everything comes with a reason. Then again maybe I’d change the nausea 😂😂

We all have our different ways of coping with nausea but the common thread which runs through all the advice is to take the Venetoclax on a moderately full tummy and drink loads of water. I've been on it now for 6 months and found that drinking just plain tap water is best (for me) and I take my meds with breakfast......but that's just my way. Have you spoken to your doc about the nausea? When I started on the ramp up I was getting quite severe nausea most days so the doc prescribed Cyclizine Hydrochloride 50mg, it worked wonders! Fortunately nausea is very rare now and according to my consultant it's quite OK to take a cyclizine to relieve it.

No doubt there are those who will disagree with this regime and it'll be interesting to hear any feedback!

Best wishes

Thank you Jay pax i have done all the things that people have suggested prior to my post. I just replied to New Dawn in the reply from her which explains why I was asking but thank you.

Ondansetron (tiny tab dissolved on tongue) was excellent for me the couple times I had Venetoclax with eggs causing nausea. No more eggs= no more nausea.

I love love love ondansetron ODT for nausea...it Does have a Black Box warning for QT prolongation, so if you have cardiac problems your doc may not prescribe it

I also had much stomach distress during the ramp up. I tried eating something substantial and fatty, as was advised, I did avocado toast, very little relief. After I was fully ramped up, I was having my dosage administered in the morning at Dana Farber, I switched from taking dosage in morning to evening and then moved it prior to bedtime with a heavyish snack. That mostly did the trick. Once in a blue moon I get stomach issues, who knows if it is the medication or something I ate at dinner. Wishing you all the best! Sandy

Hi Kyson, sorry to hear you are going through so much. One thing I found with taking Venetoclax late in the evening is I had a difficult time getting to sleep. I changed to taking it early evening, within an hour of my meal. Seems to help with my sleep. I've not heard of others that had this issue, so it may just be me, but if you find the same issue just take the dosage a little earlier.

I’m not a good sleeper but I have meds for that so I should be fine. Thanks for taking the time to reply 💗
