Should I isolate from someone who had vaccine

When my grandchildren have vaccinations I have to keep away for 2 weeks as they shed the virus. Do I have to keep away from someone who has had the Covid Vaccine for 2 weeks as well. I haven’t had my vaccine yet

The currently approved covid vaccines are not live and I don’t think it’s possible to shed any virus because vaccinated people have no virus to shed.

It is not yet known if people who are vaccinated and get immunity to the virus can still get the virus and be infectious to others even though they have no symptoms.

Thanks for that

You are welcome. And I should have added, which I know you know, that for the time being the safest course for those of us with Cll is to assume anyone we encounter might have the covid virus, vaccinated or not. Since the virus can be asymptomatic in some people, there is just no way for us to know if someone has been exposed or not.

No specific instructions for staying away. My hematologist said ok for me to get the shot. Hopefully able to get it by March. I live in the senior capitol of the USA...south Florida. We don't have enough doses fast enough. 😥

Hello Notmuchenergy

I doubt that the covid virus can be obtained from someone else's covid shot. My wife has had both covid shots and I suspect that she would have been informed by doctor that having the shot could spread covid.

Hi - I'm starting to look into this too. I looked at influenza and it causes viral shedding within the first 24 hours and for 5-10 days after for those inflected.

This article from Nov 2020 says "Once recovered, the CDC says a person can continue to shed detectable COVID-19 RNA in upper respiratory specimens for up to 3 months after the onset of the illness, even though the concentrations of COVID-19 are much lower than when the person is actually sick." kdvr.com/news/coronavirus/v...

This article from December 2020 says"That particular aspect hasn’t been studied yet. “There is a theoretical risk that you could pass the virus on to others despite being vaccinated,”" menshealth.com/health/a3487...

Basically a 'we don't know, soon we'll find out'

What I get out of reading all this is that it is all about risk reduction, taking the vaccine reduces your own risk and the risk of viral shedding to others if you are exposed to and get covid-19. The covid -19 immune response is supposed to be stronger for the vaccinated and help stop the virus from replicating to reduce the viral shed

Thanks. I’m still going to be extremely careful for a long time. I am also going to continue wearing my mask outside for ever as I normally have so many colds and chest infections, but this year only had one. I already have been using gel and antibacterial wipes for last few years and will continue to do so.
