Today I head to the hospital for 3-6 days to receive my first treatment of Obinutuzimab (Gazyva). You may remember I was struggling with the treatment decision. I decided on Obino and Venetoclax, which will be started in a couple of weeks. Dr Lamanna likes the first infusion to be in the hospital, where she can monitor for TLS and hydrate me like crazy.
Lots of emotions happening, but I know I’m in excellent hands.
All prayers welcome!
I’ll update as I can.
By the way, had bone marrow biopsy last week and barely felt a thing. And they played my favorite music on Pandora and it really lightened the mood.
But - had Covid swab yesterday and yowza that was painful (not to scare anyone).
Best to all,
NW

It is always concerning when heading to the hospital for a treatment but I can tell you from experience that receiving an infusion is anticlimactic. You will do fine. You have an outstanding doctor and are receiving cutting edge treatment. Since you are mutated, relatively young and are receiving O/V frontline my guess is you are in for a long remission. Stay positive and you will be out of the hospital before you know it.
Thanks, Mark! I’ll take anticlimactic for this, for sure!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Good luck NW! I’ve finished my Gazyva injections for month one and they were just fine. I had a reaction immediately, but thanks to the advice on here I fully expected for something to happen. I told the nurse immediately and they paused the infusion. I started again about an hour later and it’s been smooth sailing since then. Better to be in hospital where they can monitor you, and I’ll be praying everything goes smoothly for you! 🤞🏻🙏
NW as we all know the anticipation is always worse then the outcome. Just remember that dr. Lamanna is going to take very good care of you. Keep in touch and keep us updated as much as possible I will be praying and thinking about you the whole time. 🙂👍👍👍.
Thank you, GM! I do not have a port. They asked me if I wanted one, but not really knowing about it, I said no. I can always change my mind and get one, though. I’ll ask!
Best of luck to you. It is unnerving doing something like this but for my nine infusions I had between March and July, it was smooth sailing. I too had a slight allergic reaction with the first infusion but as other people have said, they stopped mine, gave me IV Benadryl, which was wonderful, and it was all went well afterwards.
