Ibrutinib and Covid 19

Is it true?

Those taking a normal full of Ibrutinib are apparently immune from the full symptoms of Covid 19 and suffer mild symptoms not even requiring hospitalisation . Five patients on Ibrutinib full dose experienced this when they caught the Coronavirus and a sixth who had stopped taking Ibrutinib got ill and was hospitalised was given a full dose and immediately recovered.

We cannot guarantee such succsss I’m afraid. If you click my name I have shared several posts wirh the data. There does seem to be a suggestion that some people may be protecddd to some degree by this drug but sadly this is not a definite. The best way to stay safe from Covid is not to catch it in the first place.

Apparently 180,000 take this drug and trials are now taking place on an initial forty nine patients on America to see if this is fact or fluke.

Yes it goes without saying that nobody wishes to catch this virus and most will continue to shield even if the restrictions are slackened but most, or should I say the majority of CLL patients taking this drug are most vulnerable due to their age and other co-morbitities and are more likely not to recover, therefore the possibility of a successful trial may be helpful to some. Let us see what the outcome of the trial is.

I understood that the consensus of opinion was that whilst we weren’t any more or less susceptible to Covid, our weakness was that we probably wouldn’t be able to muster a suitable defence to the disease, no matter what stage or type of treatment any of us were on.

That's been my belief, too. I know I don't want to gamble and find out. And some survivors of COVID-19 are having serious ongoing physical damage and/or health issues. That's the last thing any of us needs.

Berrytog, are you referring to a specific article you are reading? If so, it would help the conversation (as your news may be newer that what we have seen) if you will post the URL of the article---from the search box at top of the page of the article.

That will help others sort what they have already read with what you are referencing.

I refer to Andrew and Esther's article on their website Patient Power specifically for CLL patients posted on Tuesday.

Please post the link. Could not find the story there under CLL, Patient Stories or Latest News. Save us all from an egg hunt. 😉
