I've been on 420 mg of Ibrutinib for about 5 years, and I've had some the usual side effects such as brittle nails, mouth sores, fungal infections, and occassional muscle cramps, all of which I have been able to tolerate. But lately I've been experiencing pain in my right hip joint/socket when walking making it difficult at times to walk without pain. If I'm able to sit down for a few minutes, I'm usually OK once I get back up and continue walking. I'm wondering whether this is "simply" the onset of arthiritis that is unrelated to the Ibrutinib or whether it could be caused by taking the Ibrutinib. Thoughts anyone?

Hip Joint Pain
I have the same hip issue - ortho MD said cartilage gone- bone on bone. Aleve helps occasionally but is contraindicated with Ibrutinib. I take one tablet 4 days a week and 2 three days a week. I also have reflux - take Dexilant DR 60mg a day (it is time release) - all PPI’s affect the bones. I am 77, in the USA, have been on Ibrutinib for at least 5 years - my dose will not put me into remission but I have done well on it and my quality of life is acceptable. No one wants to have anything done in the hospital now due to Covid so I’m limping along. The hip can be very painful at night too.
PPI = ?
PPI = Proton Pump Inhibitors used to reduce acid levels in the stomach and thereby treating gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
After 3 months on Ibrutinib I began to experience hip/buttock pain on one side.I don’t have arthritis so was thinking this was caused by the Ibrutinib. It hobbled me for more than two months and migrated to the other side. Ice applied several times a day ultimately relieved the pain and it went away. I’m pretty sure it was bursitis and may never know if it was caused by the medication.
Thanks. My issue pretty much only occurs when I use our treadmill, although it did happen to me the other day while walking thru the grocery store. The pain subsided when I got back to my car and hasn't happened since. I haven't been on the treadmill in over a week inasmuch as I have been reluctant to use it since the occurance of the hip pain. My biggest concern is the possibility that I may be losing cartilege, in which case the problem will only get worse. I'm going to contact my hematologist or primary care physician to get a referall to an orthopedist. If it is caused by the Ibrutinib, what is the alternative to Ibrutinib? I'm a bit too old for FCR.
