Getting worried ....Covid-19 and CLL

I live in Alberta Canada. So far we are just beginning to see confirmed coronavirus cases. I’m retired so able to stay home and I’m practicing “Social Distancing”...doing anything possible to avoid contact. No large events, avoiding crowds, only go to shops during off hours. Etc. plus frequent hand washing.

I finished chemo a year ago and my blood work is in normal range.

Anything I should do if I get the virus. I also had a heart attack 6 months ago. I am 69

The latest recommendations here are to get tested for covid if your temperature goes above 100.4.

You should see a doctor immediately if you think you have the virus. If you are well enough to stay at home the recommended treatment is fluids, tylenol, cough medicine and rest. Whether any of those home remedies are contraindicated for you is a doctor question.

You are very welcome. From what I understand, like many viruses including the cold virus, there is no treatment. We just treat symptoms until our immune system kicks in and neutralizes the virus. Other than take precautions to avoid exposure, the only other thing we can do i know of is eat well, exercise and try to be as otherwise healthy as we can to fight the virus.

If we are infected, naturally our chances improve with prompt medical care and hospitalization where necessary. It’s crazy out there. I can’t believe the First Lady of Canada has the virus.

I'm in Nova Scotia where we have yet to have a case but I know it's coming. I can appreciate your concern, I just finished chemo a month ago so my anxiety level is high. I do not know where my bloodwork stands I have to go in a couple of weeks to get it tested and even that freaks me out to have people close to me. It's hard not to feel paralyzed by this.

You're making great choices, even though social distancing stinks! This will be over before we know it and the world will find something new to focus on. In the mean time, we all need to try to do the distancing thing, as much as is possible for our circumstances!

In the mean time, I'm super thankful for that case of 48 rolls of toilet paper we have from the "Who Gives" TP company in Australia 😉. Who knew being a TP hoarder would pay off (for the record, the order came in in December)?

But seriously, you're definitely not alone in your concerns!

The advice for people who suspect they may be infected is different all over the globe depending on the health systems and availability of testing locally.

It's most important to avoid catching it in the first place and you're doing all the right things.

There is the site for Alberta. Go to: COVID-19 Coronavirus info for Albertans

We are lucky we live in Canada and our government seems to be well organized to deal with the situation and there are professionals at the wheel.

I just wish that people who travel outside of Canada including US would quarantine themselves at the return or better yet, not go now.

We don’t have pandemic here yet, but if we are not careful it will come. Also, we have experience with SARS to help us how to handle it, 🇨🇦

I totally understand how you feel

but the president last night said that there’s a thing on Google where you put your symptoms if you get it ..go for a bit and there is a walgreens any drive up pharmacy they’ll tell you what’s the closest to your area to get tested..

Stay well
