Concern about getting more Covid-19 vaccines.

I was diagnosed under 2 years ago. I guess I’ve had it since 2007. Just wondering about getting more Covid-19 vaccines. I have believed it is a good idea to get them. But every time I have I get some very odd things I’ve never experienced before. Rash. Sore in my eye. Eye infection. I cut my arm and it turned very close to becoming septic. All events at different times. Not sure I want anymore Covid-19 vaccines. Don’t want to be stupid about it either. I would appreciate any feedback if you’re willing. Thank you.

My husband and I both had several eye infections, as well as various other health issues, during the lockdown that were not related to receiving the vaccine or to having Covid. It must have been scary when your arm's cut got so infected. And eye infections and rashes are no fun. With CLL, infections can worsen quickly. I had a blood infection in 2018 related to an infected tooth. It was very scary, and it wasn't immediately clear whether or not I would recover. But I got better. It sounds like you are questioning whether you will be even sicker with another infection if you get another booster. That is like being caught between a rock and a hard place. Have you had the bivalent booster yet? Are you someone who could take Paxlovid if you fall ill with Covid?

Thank you ! I have believed in the vaccines and had the bivalent vaccine. My CLL doc said it’s ok to take Paxlovid if needed. My P. A said take the antibodies instead of Paxlovid. I think I’d rather go with what my CLL doc has recommended. I have had Covid twice. Thanks for your input! Stay well. Best of health to you

Unfortunately, not only does CLL make us more susceptible to infection, COVID-19 infections do the same: abc.net.au/news/health/2022...

So it would appear that there's a good case for keeping up to date with recommended boosters to reduce your risk of serious infections.

I’ve received six vaccinations. The most recent was a Moderna bivalent in November about a month before I started V + O. I recall my CLL Specialist saying he was very glad to see I had received that vaccination.

I’ve also read that the NHS considers an immunocompromised person fully vaccinated after six doses. At this point, I’ll wait for further guidance from my medical professionals but my expectation is I will receive an annual Covid vaccination with my annual flu vaccination in the fall of 2023.

My advice to you is to keep an open mind and lean on your doctor’s expertise when making your decision.

Good Luck,

Mark

My CLL specialist told me to stay away from anymore COVID vaccines. After my third does my lymph nodes went crazy. I am talking they were as big as golf balls in arm pits and face and neck were extremely swollen. I had to start treatment that point and they are all gone now. My infusion nurse had the same reaction with his third dose and had to start treatment also. Maybe it's coincidence but nobody knows foresure. I'm definitely not saying it caused my CLL but possibly exacerbated it. I was doing very well in W&W for the previous 5 yrs before that. For me I will never take another one. Definitely worth talking to your Dr about.
