Hello All, I have been on Imbruvica for several months. However, I see a hematologist/oncologist. I would like to see a CLL Specialist. Any recommendations in Virginia or bordering States?
Thanks

I don't believe that site lists any in VA., but may be in a bordering states you can travel to.
There will most likely be someone who will have a suggestion.
Type in for google search CLL Specialist in Virginia. Then be sure to read the bio information to get a clearer picture of the Drs. experience in Hematological cancers and especially in non-hodgkins leukemia. but, wait also for some who may be able to give you the name of one they see.
I’m in Va and see a Dr at UVA (in Charlottesville) that specializes in NHL and CLL - I’m not sure where you are but he treats my mom as well as a few other CLL patients (families as well) in the “area”
Depending on what part of Va you live in, Dr Michelle Brander at Duke in Durham NC might be an option.
CLL society and other expert lists don't have include any CLL docs in VA. closest to you would be Maryland, but you're in luck--NIH has an excellent cll team, and there are others in that state, too.
This list is in alphabetical order and i would start with Dr. Wiestner at NIH. i saw him several times as my second and third opinion 20 years ago. In addition to his long term expertise it makes sense to try to get to NIH because of all of the clinical trials there.
Douglas Edward Gladstone, MD, Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore
Barry R. Meiseberg, MD, Anne Arundel Medical Center, Annapolis
Adrian Wiestner, MD, PhD, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda
If you are near Washington DC, you could check out the CLL specialist, Dr. Bruce Cheson. I think he used to be at Georgetown, not sure of his current status.
Hello Wahoowa,
I see people has already shared this resource for a list of CLL Experts from the CLL Society here: cllsociety.org/toolbox/cll-...
CLL Society also provides a free online second opinion from a CLL expert through the Expert Access Program here: cllsociety.org/cll-society-.... The inclusion criteria includes being based in the US , a diagnosis of CLL, and you are not currently seeing a top CLL doctor. Part of the program includes a release of your medical records for review by the CLL expert prior to the consultation.
If you would like to stay in touch about CLL-specific research, events, and local Support Groups, please join our mailing list at: cllsociety.org/newsletter-s....
Please feel free to reach out with any questions to support@cllsociety.org.

Unless he has recently changed Dr Weistner at NIH does not see pts for tx unless you are in a clinical trial with which he is involved at NIH. I would second the endorsement of Michelle Brander at Duke in Raleigh, NC.
