A nervous wreck.

I have been referred to Hematology for Lymphocytosis (symptomatic). He is in the process of checking to see if it is Leukemia. I'm trying to find out as much as I can before I go back on Monday 1/6/20. I do have Ebstein Bar Virus that is active. I am a bundle of nerves at this point.

Lymphocytosis is typically elevated white blood cell count from an infection or chronic infection. I wouldn’t get to nervous at this point , let the Hematologist check you blood work and go from there. it is common with people that have chronic infections and in most case has nothing to do with a blood cancer. You have the EBV active virus with symptoms to deal with at this point and that has to be draining--I am sure you do not feel well at all. It is understandable that your are worried. I hope you get a sorting of what is going on at your appointment. I am so sorry you are beginning the new year with this worry.

While there are several B-Cell lymphoproliferations that can be associated with the same WBC and the immune system as EBV, your Dr. is most likely seeking to rule out any and all of those possibilities, to get to what is going on.

Sorry to say there is little that we can say in regard to your specific diagnosis of EBV at this point. Please take care of yourself, and lease let us know how your appointment on the 6th, goes.

Try not to worry. Googling about your symptoms often finds old information and digs up worst case situations. Talk about what's going on to a trusted friend. But try to not worry as it doesn't help. Eat healthy, rest well, take notes at your appointment, and maybe have someone with you, that helps in many ways...
