I can’t find anything specific to Ibrutinib but it is listed generally to be avoided during cancer treatment (unspecified) due to its impact on CYP enzymes;

cancerresearchuk.org/about-...

I’ve never been told to avoid pomegranates whilst on Ibrutinib and it’s not on the advisory literature I’ve seen.

Chris May have mentioned it. I wish we had his posts indexed. I have seen it mentioned faking with grapefruit and Seville oranges for other treatments. bkoffman ?

Possibly for the reasons given above but not specific to Ibrutinib.

See the replies from Cllcanada for the references to pomegranates. The issue is that the foods discussed interfere with the chemistry Ibrutinib and may make side effects worse.

-

In addition to grapefruit, other fruits have similar effects. Noni (M. citrifolia), for example, is a dietary supplement typically consumed as a juice and also inhibits CYP3A4;[24] pomegranate juice has this effect as well.[25]

Also St. Johns Wort and many antibiotics, particularly CIPRO, which requires a dose reduction.. of Imbruvica (ibrutinib) for example...

These warnings also pertain to idelalisib...

Pomegranates are mentioned in the following link:

I am on the ibrutinib arm of the FLAIR trial and I was advised to avoid pomegranates

I’m also on Flair fapumpkin but avoiding pomegranates has never been mentioned to me. It’s not included on the literature I was given.

Did the Consultant mention it specifically?

I read it in the link which I’d also provided but it wasn’t specific to Ibrutinib and even includes cabbage and onions on that list which I’d have thought were good for us. Not really sure now but in honesty I don’t eat pomegranates anyway. Must be an issue for the poster who grows them however.

I saw pomegranates mentioned somewhere and so asked a trial nurse about them and she came back to me and advised avoidance.

Why would you want to chance it? I would look for a food bank to donate them or any other method as I hate to see things go to waste. 🙏☘️💗😍

My wife on imbruvica for about 3 years, likes pomegranates juice and drinking it regularly. We don't see any problem with it. Her numbers are good and per her doctor - she's in full remission.

I have been told NOT to drink or eat them, I've been on Imbruvica for 18 months and both Oncologists I've seen in Wichita,KS. and Atlanta,GA. have said that Pomegranates and Grapefruits would change how Imbruvica works

I was told (when I was on Ibrutinib) to avoid because the juice intensifies the medication, which can be a hazard to some.
