I'm on my 5th week and was wondering if I can swim in the pool and how much sun can I get. Naturally, I wont be in the sun for more than an hour or so.

We are all different, so what's a safe activity for some may not be for you. You should ask your specialist for their advice, but knowing your neutrophil and immunoglobulin counts along with your infection history will be what guides their recommendation.

Your pool, private pool, or public pool would play into the decision as well as counts.

you will burn much quicker than you normally would.

Cancer patients tend to produce other cancers. My wife is on her second with CLL and now her CLL doctor recommends she stay out of the sun and see a dermatologist once or even twice a year as skin cancer is of concern when on the novel oral agents.

Swimming out doors may not be a good idea...not sure, as the water may reflect or absorb rays, but I know golfing, and walking out doors is a concern for us so we cover up when so engaged.

My husband is a young CLLer at 44 but we’re absolutely doing all those things. Use sunscreen of course and have extra precautions if your immune system is low but otherwise go live your life and have some fun.

I swim in pools and even legs and the ocean. I do rinse off Good right after I get out and also use alcohol eardrops to clear out any remaining water in my ears. I I did it while on I plus V as well. In the lake and ocean or use a mask and snorkel so I limit the amount of water in my nose and mouth My neutrophils were OK but never very high

If you spend time in the sun you should put on sunscreen since people and CLL are much more likely to get skin cancer.

If I recall properly we are six times more likely to get skin cancer with Cll.

Be well,

Hoffy
