Well, I started my fist pill of Imbruvica yesterday at 6pm. Went to bed, everything was fine. Got up early, had a few sips of coffee & a banana and within 3 hours my stomach was full of knots, had nausea and threw up. It's now 3pm and still feel like crap. Any suggestions? Thanks all.

Sorry. Being sick is awful. I had digestive probs with IB but your response is different in being delayed and very specific. I am wondering if you started any other meds at the same time you started IB? You should phone the contact number they must have given you at the Clinic. Tell them about your experience and ask what to do.
Hoping it’s a one off gut disturbance. I’d also suggest no matter what the cause that
you try to keep your diaphragm free and not compressed so try to sit up straight. But you should check out your incident with your hospital as it’s so specific and easy to describe. Wishing you feel better tomorrow.
Try it in the morning. Part of your nausea might also be anxiety with starting. Give it time. Most ibrutinib side effects subside with time. I think you’ll be fine. I have not heard many people have persistent nausea. I had headaches the first couple days. They went away and I never knew for sure if ibrutinib caused them. Just stick with it and give it time. Report the side effects to your doctor for sure. If they persist the first strategy is often reducing the dose, but I would let it play out and maybe try dosing in the morning. I do.
When I was on imbruvica, my first dose came with a sample of Quesy Drops (like a hard candy you can buy online) and I still use those with the venetoclax I'm on now when the nausea hits. I also was prescribed Zofran to help with nausea. Your doctor should be able to prescribe Zofran or something else since they will not like that the medication you take doesn't stay down.
My husband was advised to take in the morning with 3 glasses of water during breakfast. The days he takes less water he has vomited or feels nauseous. He also did a market research recently for a drug company who were amazed that some Drs do not emphasis how important it is to drink the 3 glasses. Hydration is key wth IB. You can’t do this at night...for obvious reasons🥴
I have found on Imbruciva (in 2nd month, am 74)) that eating very NB. I would get sick if I ate what you did. First thing always warm water (add small amount of cran or other juice or drops of lemon and or small squeeze of old tea bag) then a little later oatmeal and coffee and often cheese on bread or omelette if still hungry. I never used to have consistent breakfasts but now necessary. Just giving you my experience and I know we are all different. Also possibly you need to stop worrying or anticipating symptoms. Lots of people are practically symptom free. General healthy habits very NB. Hope you get over this. Be positive.
oso7672,
Your physician's assistant should have briefed you about possibilities such as this. They should have also assigned you with an oncology nurse and with a 24/7 contact resource.
Especially because this is your initial dosing, Please call your nurse now.
After you have been on the Ibrutinib long enough that there is no urgent risk, then it will be more beneficial to discuss concerns with fellow CLL'ers.

my wife always has bad bouts of nausea when she take flagy(metronidazole) for her diverticulosis. she tried every prescription drug known for nausea. then i thought about trying EMETROL otc liquid. It solved her issue and you really can't overdose it-although you may be taking more than you need. it's also too soon to make any decisions on ibrutinib.
I take mine first thing in the morning with 2 full glasses of water and a cup of coffee. one hour later i take all my other drugs with one glass of water and eat breakfast. i have never had nausea
So did I (vote for nixon) Ha! Anyway, my 2 cents. My husband had c-diff, nasty disease, and was prescribed Flagyl. It was very hard for him to keep down, but when he started to take Jarrow (brand name) Saccharomyces Boulardii plus MOS (provides enhanced support to the intestinal tract), he kept the medicine down easily, no nausea at all. Even our Dr. told him he was doing great on that combo! since she said she never could take Flagyl and keep it down. Just saying, it worked so well for him, maybe not the right thing for your wife. But ask the Dr. first if she decides to try it. He bought this on Amazon.
You might ask your doctor for a prescription of Ondansetron HCL 8mg. They worked well for me when I needed them.
Hello All: This medication has many effects. I have been on imbruvica for 2 years. The first 5 months were very trying. Please don't give up. Imbruvica has done me well.
