Ibrutinib and Prednisolone

Hi all,

Yesterday (Saturday) I was prescribed Doxycycline and Prednisolone, the second year I have had to have 3 doses of antibiotics for a stubborn chest infection. The GP is concerned whether the Prednisolone is OK to take with the Ibrutinib I have been on for the past 6 years. He is quite keen for me to start taking the Pred from today, but I haven't been able to raise anyone at my hospital in Bournemouth.

Anyone now if this is OK? , the dose is 40mg.

i have taken methyprednisolone(medrol 4mg dosepak) for 6 days while on ibrutinib. Methylprednisolone is a more powerful version of prednisolone. No issues for me.

Hi Mikey

Is there not an on call Haematologist you can speak to ? Or perhaps 111 ? They should be able to check.

For the future my GP always checks on the website for any drug contras with IB and this long list should appear colour coded.

Personally Azithromycin is the only thing that works on my chest !

I hope you find the correct answer.

Regards

Colette

For anyone else reading this looking for drug interactions The DrugBank lets you look up a drug, like Ibrutinib, and it will list all know drugs that interact with it.

Good luck with the Prednisolone and watch out for the side effects. I was prescribed them 3 weeks ago because i have had hives for over 5 weeks and neither, anti virals, antibiotics or anti histamines have helped. The steroids havent helped either but the side effects have been quite significant.

Insomnia, i don't sleep very well as it is but Prednisolone made sleeping virtually impossible. I also gained 4lbs in weight because they make you hungry and the butterflies in my chest, like i had run a marathon, has been very unpleasant and uncomfortable at times.

I was on 20mg for 2 weeks and then i rduced the dosed by 5mg every second day until i was off them all together.

Nasty things and not a pleasant experience at all.
