Hi all, I haven't posted for some time. Haven't been that well. Disappointing given I was told my disease was stable. Has anyone had a very painful node, maybe infected? Can they get infected? I have loads of nodes in my head and neck which are annoying and ache but this long lumpy thing now just below my ear is so so painful. Would really appreciate advice. GP just given me more antibiotics and doesn't seem to know.

Hi Steffi50,

Funny you should say that, I just had the same thing happen to me. I have many nodes on my neck too and a couple at the base of my head suddenly became hard and very sore and then my neck underneath was very painful on the one side. It seems to be subsiding now, but apparently this is not uncommon. Nodes will wax and wane, it's not easy to pinpoint the reason. I sometimes think changes in the season start some type of allergy for me, but that's just a thought. Anyway, I used a rice filled neck warmer, heated it in the microwave and placed it on the sore spot, it helped a lot. A warm compress of any kind is helpful. I've also heard others say they used Vicks Vaporub on it, but I actually used Tiger Balm and it helped a lot. They have now come down in size and gotten softer. I hope that helps. Best regards!

Rice warmers can be as simple as a sock filled with rice and then microwaved. They do feel good if used for areas for which heat helps.

I too have gotten some painful lumpy nodes in that area recently. My whole neck is swollen up! I am seeing my Hematologist on Monday, so we will see what she says. I too was told it would be a long time until I saw symptoms so this is frustrating and a bit scary. I would see if you can get it to see you specialist or at least call to ask questions. If nothing else it would put you at ease.

Are you sure its a node and not a gland?

This happened to me, and it was so painful I couldnt function for a few days. I cried and cried. I went to the doctor three times before they finally figured it out. I had to go to the ER and INSIST something was VERY WRONG and PAINFUL more painful than the ear infection they were telling me it was. I never want to experience that again. Stay hydrated!
