My cardiologist put me on Eliquis . I have been taking since February and will see him for check up next month. I did not have any symptoms for AFIB but found in Primary Dr. visit. My Dr. stopped Imbruvica and was off for 8 days. Went back on after consulting with Heart Dr.

Hi

The first thing my doctor did was prescribe a blood thinner to reduce stroke risk. I started with warfarin for a number of years, but then switched to eliquis

There are two other types of medications you could discuss with your doctor: rate control meds and rhythm control meds. If your afib is symptomatic you and your doctor may decide to try these. Rate control meds try to slow the rate of heart beating. Metoprolol is one example. Rhythm control meds try to keep your heart in sinus rhythm. Examples here are flecainide and Amiodarone

Good luck

Thanks John...I am on a calcium channel blocker and that has lowered my blood pressure and slowed down the rapid heart meat...never had any problems before until taking imbruvica for one year...hate all the side effects.

I was put on the beta blocker Toprol XL (extended release Metoprolol). It was successful. Sometimes too successful as my heart rate dipped into the low 50's. But a dosage reduction mitigated this problem and it has relieved my afib.

In conjunction, I reduced my caffeine intake (no coffee) to one cup of tea a day. And I am more mindful to get plenty of sleep.
