Question about my CLL.

I was recently diagnosed with CLL. Not even sure what stage because biopsies are not back yet iron is low so I have to have infusions this Wednesday and next. For the past couple nights i have woke up sweating and my heart beating out of my chest. Tonight i can't sleep due to being woke up to sweating but my heart racing. It's starting to come down. My question is could this be from the low iron? Should I go to the ER in the morning? I'm new at this CLL stuff and I know this normally is something that don't mean a death sentence but I'm afraid that I might be doing something wrong. Sorry for rambling.

Hi Mamawof25. I’m sorry that you’re having such a worrying time. When I was first diagnosed a few months ago, I was getting night sweats, day sweats, nausea and heart palpitations. I think it was mostly stress from the shock and fear of the unknown. I don’t know much about iron deficiency and racing heart symptoms, so hopefully someone more knowledgeable can offer more insight soon. I just want to let you know that you’re not alone and that if you need to go to ER to get checked out, it might be worth the trip to get some clarity and calm. For me, the biggest challenge early on was more psychological than anything. Hugs!!!

I agree with Ash's comment. If you feel worried about what you are experiencing, then do see a GP or your CLL consultant. Night sweats are so common with CLL. I have just looked up iron deficiency on the UK NHS website and it states:

"Symptoms can include: tiredness and lack of energy, shortness of breath, noticeable heartbeats (heart palpitations), pale skin."

So your heart symptoms could well be due to the iron deficiency, but I would still check it out, it might help speed up your treatment too.

All the best. Holly

You might benefit from speaking with a Leukemia Care specialist nurse, gettign used to the diagnosis can add additional pressure. you probaly need a swift follow up with your specialist.
