I have found that working out with weights stimulates my appetite, plus it increases muscle tone. A host of other benefits come with it as well. My stress level lowers, sleep is more restful, improved circulation...... You've probably heard all of this before, so I'll hush up.

Hello Clayton, I have recently finished treatment after 5 rounds of FCR. During that time I found the nausea awful and of course that affected my appetite. But I knew I needed to support my body regardless so I ensured I carried on eating mainly healthy foods, plenty of fruit and veg. I also ensured I had a walk outdoors (with the dog) every day to continue exercising. While I was not well enough to continue my pilates classes, I did try and do some at home to maintain my muscle and core strength. So I think the advice given by Indolent is good if you can do it.

In regard to food, I found that although I felt nauseous, strong flavours were more palatable than bland tasteless food, which seemed odd to me. So things like flavouring food with ginger and curry powder worked for me. Also, my consultant suggested I take ginger tablets to help with nausea. Having got them I did not then need them as I did not have the 6th treatment.

All the best, Holly.

Small amounts of exercise should help stimulate appetite. Depending on your circumstances and where you live, medical marijuana is an option.

But don't smoke it! Don't need lung infections!

I, too, lost a lot of muscle tone and now working hard to restore it.

Except for 3 or 4 days during chemo when I was nauseous, I didn't lose my appetite until 5 months after my last treatment. Also now have a bit of nausea. My doctor suspects a chemo induced ulcer so I will see my GI doctor next week. I experimented with different foods to see what I could tolerate better. I eat lots of fruits and vegs, breads (mostly whole grain) and my meats/fish have little to no seasoning. White and sweet potatoes work well too. Also peanut butter. Can't tolerate much fried stuff, sugar or creamed sauces and soups. I push myself to exercise when feeling tired.
