Mine have been thin and splitting for years, can't say if it's CLL, the treatments for CLL I've receive, old age (now 61) or maybe I need something dietwise.

Like so many things, I doubt if anyone can say with any sort of authority if there are relationships.

But if anyone has any great ideas, I'm ALL ears!

My husband hasn't had that and he's the one with CLL.

I have thyroid issues and have always had hair loss and cracked toe nail.

I take a hair, skin and nails supplement from Amazon, I eat or blend into a smoothie...coconut oil. I also drink an aloe juice that does NOT have the skin in it.

You would need to ask your doctor before taking supplements. The coconut oil looks like Crisco. It is a healthy fat and nourishes the brain also. You can find a good cold processed aloe anywhere from your local health food store to the Walmart.

I wish you the best.

Splitting nails is a commonly reported Ibrutinib side effect, with many finding biotin helps:

I had a similar problem but after a year of taking ibrutinib, it has calmed down. I found having tape around my finger and nail tips, along wearing surgical gloves a lot, really helped. I still have an issue with cracking heels, but I have found using 'Gehwol med salve for cracked skin' amazing and it also helps with the cracking on my finger tips. I have not had any of the issues with my nails or heels before ibrutinib. Hope this helps

How long after starting ibrutinib did you start having nail problems? I have been taking it for almost 6 months so far with no problems. Is this something that usually shows up later?

My nails started four months in, but of course everybody is different, you may not experience it at all. Good luck

I think your experience is fairly typical, which makes sense, given it takes four to six months for a lost fingernail to regrow. New fingernail tissue affected by Ibrutinib would be expected to take the same amount of time to become apparent.

I have been on 10,000 units of biotin for awhile and my nails have not improved much. My oncologist thinks that Ibrutinib may be interfering with some kind of mineral absorbtion but admitted he doesn't have an answer. He told me to try a prenatal vitamin with folate.

I am taking 5000 of biotin . I think it's improving But I am not totally sure . I am told it takes about six months to really help and I have only been doing it for about three

I have had problems with my nails since around the time of my diagnosis. Biotin was suggested and I took it religiously for several years, then decided it wasn't helping and stopped. My nails deteriorated, so I guess it does something for me. I'm back on it.
