Does anyone have any experience with Cancer Treatment Center of America and would you recommend them for 2nd opinion on CLL?

Reviews I've seen are mixed, but the negative comments concern me - not just related to CLL. They certainly don't have a known CLL specialist. If you give some idea of where you are perhaps someone here can suggest specialists in your area.

I know of no CLL specialist there. I would not obtain a 2nd opinion of anyone other than a CLL specialist.

I agree. Will be going to KU. They are to be calling me with appointment time hopefully today.

If I was in the US, I would be going to a CLL Research Consortium hospital.

There are many other options, certainly...

but the top tier clinical researchers are there... however

I would add to my list... NIH, Weill Cornell NY Presbyterian or Columbia NY Presbyterian in NYC, Sloan Kettering... Mayo in Florida and perhaps Arizona... UPENN and Fred Hutch, Carol CC in Nashville, Duke, US Oncology Network, off the top of my head...

Dr. Steven Coutre at Stanford is another good

CLL specialist. I saw him for a second opinion and he was spot on with my Hematologist's direction and opinion.

No. One reason is that they order lots of unnecessary tests which are costly… according to a nurse friend of mine. They are a money-making machine (with lots of facilities popping up around most of the country) …according to another friend in our local LLS group meeting. It is worth the time and travel to visit a specialist. I flew clear cross the country. You can make it worth while by creating a week's vacation or longer to coincide with it. San Diego is nice this time of year. :-)

Sounds good to me but unable to do that. I have found a doctor in KC that is CLL specialist. Thanks for the input.

That was said tongue-in-cheek. But I did do that to see dr. Kipps in 2000 who is head of the CLL consortium. Great week and great doctor. Needed a vacation anyway.

Good u found a good doc. Best of everything to you.

francc...What is the name of the facility and CLL doctor in the San Diego area. I live in Arizona, but I have a daughter in Orange County. Would not be far to travel to. Thanks in advance for the info. Carole

I see that Mayo is mentioned in Arizona. and Florida. What about in Minnesota? That's closer to Kansas. Don't they have CLL experts?

I understand that KU in Kansas City talks to Mayo daily. Have appointment march 24.

I have only heard people talk. No.

My advise would be to chose a specialist from Dr. Sharman's List.
