Any advise on travelling abroad for a family wedding. Taking place in Barbados the flight is eight hours and what about inoculations. Is this trip advisable.

The problem needs discussing with your medical team.
If they approve you will no doubt be advised to have travel insurance .(see my recent post) which could be a problem?
I don't think we can advise you as it totally depends upon y,our situation with cll and is really a medical decision.
Hi dolly,
I think the first thing is to review your plan with your specialist. Tell them where you are going. If they OK it then you make the decision if you want to take the risk.
Get travel insurance and make sure you declare your CLL status. There has been multiple discussions here on travel insurance. If in doubt ask. You will pay mire because of CLL but it doesnt have to be too much more (some charge a lot so be careful). You will pay a premium for travelling ti USA/Carribean, but everyone does CLL or not.
Personally I'd gon if my consultant agreed, I think the positives could outway the risks (for me). Others might be more risk averse.

I am on watch and wait and have to fly between NYC and Los Angeles every few months. My doc is ok with it as long as I carry a mask in case someone around me is coughing and spluttering. As for my own concerns, I bring anti-bacterial wipes and sanitize my seat and the surrounding seats. I try not to touch anything more than needed. I drink a berocca and take zma supplement before and after the flight. It's probably just good for making expensive urine but I do it anyway. I use sanitizer often and am aware of the people around me. Once I asked the stewardess To have me moved due to the person near me coughing but so far so good I haven't picked anything up. It might just be down to luck but I will take it where I can get it. Absolutely speak to your doctor first and ask. Sometimes I am fortunate enough to upgrade to first class and then I don't worry much as I have so much space between me and the other travellers and if I see an empty row I always ask to sit there. Good luck keep us posted
Hi, my specialist has left desicion up to me and has noted the length of the flight i have travelld by plane short distances with no problems. My other concern is travel insurance which looks like being very expensive. I have a few months to consider everything. Thank you for all your comments.
Hi do11y
I note you have suffered with chest infections quite a lot so this is a difficult call for you to make. If you decide the risk is worth it to be able to have the pleasure of enjoying this family celebration, do take additional precautions.
Some have already made suggestions, would suggest you have a first defence spray in your luggage to ward of germs at first sign that you have picked up anything on the plane or from the relations.
Good luck whatever you decide.

In the past I traveled many times to the USVI and found that my chest felt bad.....twice on the return trip I had to go to the emergency room as my chest ached so bad I had no Idea what was going on.....Then my Md. told me to buy a %Sp02 finger clamp to find out what my oxygen in my blood was.during flight ...it was supposed to be 95 to 100 safely and in the high80's is still ok..... mine registered 75 during the flight.....The planes are not pressurized to handle altitudes for people that have compromised lung problems.... I ended up buying a portable oxygen maker (size of a cigar box) and Now I have no trouble flying ... fish61
