Is a universal flu vaccine on the horizon?

Medical research scientists are getting closer to creating a universal flu vaccine. This brief article reports the latest progress along with a good description of why achieving this has proved so very difficult. It's worth reading for those that are interested in how our bodies learn to recognise pathogens so that we can avoid repeat infections, whether that's by exposure to the pathogens or via a vaccine containing antigen particles from the pathogen:
