Dear members there are places available for you to join us in Glasgow for our first meeting in Scotland to provide CLL support in the north. This is an opportunity to stamp this as a regular calendar event and a much needed opportunity to bring the CLL patient/carer community together in Scotland and the North. Please join us in Glasgow and help us deliver a successful meeting. Glasgow has just given us the best commonwealth games ever, I think the Glasgow CLL meeting is shaping up to keep the bar as high. Having enjoyed the games, I am looking forward to enjoying Glasgow and meeting new friends.
CLLSA patient/carer meetings are an opportunity to share with others who understand and can relate (no need to explain), while learning from CLL expert clinical consultants and each other strategies to "live well with CLL" and developments and resources in your area.
If you are in Scotland or the North of England, please can you circulate meeting details by sticking up a page at your clinic next time you visit. We hope people will join us from wider afield too.
The venue is right opposite the train station. so easy to get to from both sides of the boarder. Meeting details: healthunlocked.com/cllsuppo...
The first CLLSA meeting in Scotland
Monday 22nd September 2014
10.00am - 4.00pm
Grand Central Hotel
99 Gordon Street
Glasgow G1 3SF
All members are invited to our first meeting in Scotland on the 22nd of
September 2014. We are privileged to have Dr Alison McCaig MBChB, MRCP,
FRCPath, PhD as our keynote speaker.
Dr McCaig is a consultant in the haematology department of the Royal
Alexandra Hospital, Paisley. She also works for one day a week in the
Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, running the CLL clinic, along with
Dr Mike Leach. A large part of this role is to increase the number of UK CLL
trials that are run locally, and Dr McCaig is the primary investigator on
two current trials. She took her PhD at the Paul O'Gorman Leukaemia Research
Laboratory, University of Glasgow, and still maintains links with the lab
where her work involves the investigation of novel therapeutic targets in
CLL.
The programme will be a combination of presentations and discussions
focusing on living with CLL and current treatments in the morning session.
In the afternoon the focus will switch to the latest CLL trials and future
developments in CLL research and treatments.
Dr McCaig will be joined by a member of her research team who will give a
brief presentation of the latest research work in which they are involved.
We will also ensure the patient perspective is built into the programme when
CLL patients from Scotland will share their experiences with members.
The day will begin with coffee during registration (10.00-10.30) and lunch
and afternoon tea are provided. A more detailed programme will be forwarded
in due course.
The conference is free for CLLSA members.
