What about the size of the abdomen after the process of Kasai .. What is normal and what size is worrisome

after 4 months kasai
Hi Ja3fer, my son had kasai last year and his belly is always "big". He's had ultrasounds done and there is no fluid in his belly. If there is no acites, and yoyr doctors aren't concerned, I wouldn't worry too much about size because even kids without liver issues have big bellies, especially after eating. Please, Please, please talk with your doctors and if you're concerned they can do an ultrasound to check for acities. Is your child's belly hard? Do they seem uncomfortable with breathing? Are they able to eat properly? Does their belly size fluctuate or is it always "big"? These are some of the things I would pay attention to. Also, if your child has an enlarged liver and/or spleen that will make their belly big as well. I too was worried about my son's belly size after kasai because like I said it can get pretty big. I used a measuring tape and measured the size of his belly using his belly button as my point of reference. His belly size ranges from 18-22 inches around depending on how full he is. He's 15 months now and weighs about 20 pounds. Again, I really encourge you to discuss with your child's liver team, so that action can be taken if it is indeed acites. Your family will be in my prayers, I hope this helps!
How wonderful you are. I appreciate your support and thank you for your help. After Kasai, bilirubin began to decrease, but the enzymes were still high and belly size increased slightly. The ultrasound examination did not show that there was ascites. Our doctor told me he had enlarged liver and injury damage in some tissues before surgery and finds that the situation of my child is relatively good .. is a Beautifull child but the rise of enzymes and belly size are what warry me.. I always wish your child all the best and health and wellness and allow me to always communicate with you
