Could anyone give me some advice please? I was put on Atorvastatin three months ago due to my cholesterol being 12.6, a month later a blood test revealed it had gone down to 6.8 & no further action to be taken. It’s suspected to be hereditary as my diet is extremely healthy and I’m not overweight. Is it normal to be put on statins and then just left to get on with it? thank you.

Statins
You need to offer full blood test details to get a satisfactory answer.
Did you GP do a risk analysis or refer to lipid clinic for further tests?
No further action? What is the statin dosage and are to to continue with the same dosage or lower dosage?
You may not have a thyroid problem in an obvious sort of way - but you may have Low T3 - the active thyroid hormone needed in every cell of your body. Very rarely tested within the NHS.
Low T3 can be linked to raised cholesterol due to sluggish metabolism in the liver. Also T3 is involved in the repair and maintenance of epithelial cells of the bladder lining. ( I read your previous posts ) So maybe thyroid testing would be a good next step.
I had raised cholesterol and Homocysteine when diagnosed with Hashimotos back in 2005. The correct thyroid treatment sorted the cholesterol and good supplementation of B12 & all the B vitamins sorted the Homocysteine.
Be careful with Statins they caused me worse pain and also lipitor caused me to get a bakers cyst behind my kneecap and the pain was really horrible all statins do that to me so I wont take them anymore
