My cholesterol results

Thought I would post my results on here too after putting them on BHF probably by mistake.

I was put on 40mg statins in may 2018 after the shock of a 99%blockage in my LAD and the usual stent procedure that then followed.

I disagreed with taking statins and dropped my cholesterol from 5.2 to 4.3 with diet alone in 4weeks...Sadly I was pushed to go on them by cardiologist.

my latest results are now here..See pic below..I note my LDL is above normal..2.1..surely that's not that bad? Before they even pushed the horrid statins on me I lost 3stone and changed my diet.

I was never a smoker or drinker and had and still have a physical job..sadly after all this it seems I'm now suffering MVA micro vascular angia .And it's a worry every day.

But I would be glad if any of you clever people would give me the heads up on my results.

Thank you

Using LDL-C as the basis for clinical management of cardiovascular disease risk (CVD) is an out-dated model.

Two things you must understand - first, it is your choice to take statins, not the doctor's, regardless of his insistence. I went through something similar and I stopped taking statins post bypass surgery about 2 years ago against my cardiologist's advice. I too made radical changes to my diet and lifestyle and have maintained these changes. My surgery was in March 2015 and I stopped all medications by October 2016. In hindsight, had I embarked on my health changes sooner, I could have stopped a year earlier.

My health profile is different from yours so don't base your decision on my anecdotal evidence only. Consider consulting a naturopathic doctor who specializes in this field or get a second opinion from another cardiologist.

Second - get a measure of your LDL-P (particle number). Recent research shows that this biomarker is of greater importance in identifying CVD risk.

You can get this value by getting an NMR Lipoprofile blood test (about $100 USD). Alternatively get an Apo B blood test measure in addition to Apo A. Apo B is a surrogate measure of LDL-P. The ratio of ApoB/ApoA also is a good risk indicator.

The NMR Lipoprofile is the gold standard today so if you can afford this test get it ASAP. With the evidence of those results, you can then determine if taking statins are really necessary and you have scientific evidence to present to a cardiologist.

Here's the link to the science behind the significance of LDL-P which you can show your doctor:

my tryglicerides says Above average 2.1mmol/L [< 2.0 so it's not that bad

And I've read alot of upto date data that siggests it's not all abouts the tryglicerides.

I understand about insulin resistance etc.

will post pic of HbA1c levels on here because there's too much to write haha..
